my point is with a programmamble ecu he doesn't need to keep his stock (small) injectors. and can run proper sized injectors.

sure it isn't a vacuum advance distributor? Be interested to know how long that suzuki motor will last being force fed![]()
mullet, i whacked a t25 onto my feroza couple years ago. all stock map electronics etc. i 'played' with the wastegate actuator so it would open just below 5psi as the ecu would cut out if it hit 5psi. i ran a st185 w2a intercooler. i retarded the timing a little and flogged the shit out of it on the beach, hi-way, generaly everywhere.
it made a totaly new car, specialy on the beach. i've removed it recently as i had to go over the pits to change rego interstate.hasnt gone back on yet.

how much timing did you know out of it? and do they run a knock sensor standard?
no knock sensor, i dont know how much i retarded it, just lefty loosen and backed it off a little. it's only a 9.5:1 c/r engine, so less than 5psi of boost isnt a real biggy.![]()
i just might do my 4afe + t after all...![]()
Im with a lot of the people below.
If you spent the money on a decent fully programmable ECU, you would get sufficient gains just from that, with plenty of room to "properly" accommodate a turbo down the track.
i haven't had much to do with mega squirt but, i know even for a fully assembled unit the price is great.
I know a lot of people who have had great success on adaptronic also, as well as EMS and a few other units.
Call is up to you, though you should keep in mind that if you go to all the trouble of turboing it, and it comes time to turn the key, if things do go pear shaped it may end up costing more than first planned.
So IMO, get an ecu (or at least on that can handle your mods) before making any serious modifications to your motor
MegaSquirt 2 V3.0 PCB Assembled - AU$440, probably AU$460 shipped.
MegaSquirt 2 V3.0 PCB Kit - AU$280, probably AU$300 shipped.
Took me 5 hours to assemble mine, took it rather slow and double checked everything as I went.
Heaps of flexibility with the MegaSquirt, works with a lot of daughter boards and there are some guys out there running outrageous configurations. The MegaSquirt is really limited by how much time you want put into setting it up. There is even a guy running a MS2 on a 3.5HP Briggs & Stratton
For tuning software, I use TunerStudio for my MS2, it's got a lot of features, 100% configurable dashboard (want a EGT gauge? add one! want a S2000 style tacho? add one!) and has brilliant logging. Phil Tobin who created TunerStudio does regular updates and also includes a rather nice map analysis program built in.
Plus the MegaSquirt interpolates between cells in 4-5 steps between cells to provide more incrementals between raw cell values (Pretty sure other ECU do this too?)
EDIT: some extra stuff...
I'm not going to push the MS over any other aftermarket ECU out there, because the MS is my first aftermarket ECU I've had (Besides a Nistune ECU), so I don't have the experience to put one over the other. However, for the price of the MegaSquirt, it made things a lot more convincing to purchase it, I bought a MegaSquirt 2 and LC1 Wideband for less then the cheapest Adaptronic or Haltec (Fuel Only) ecu and had it running in the car in no time. The most rewarding thing I like about the MegaSquirt is that it has really pushed me to learn more about cars and EFI in general, stuff I wouldn't have learnt if I just forked out $1k for a PnP ecu and got a shop to install and tune it for me (Probably another $1k on top)

For that kind of thing, a MegaSquirt 1 V3.0 PCB would be plenty for such a project, only about AU$225 shipped![]()
Hi Duk, I agree with what your saying on the factory ECU. I've got an AE82 twin cam that runs great, reliable etc etc 650km to 40L highway (tested) and I don't want to lose all that nice tuning for just for 5 seconds of acceleration out of every 1-10 minutes of normal driving.
I've got another 4age in a ta22 running wrx turbo which seems to spool up great. Not sure what model wrx it was off but sizing is great for what i want it for. For fuel I was running an extra injector plumbed into the intake running off a hobbs switch... (actually it was an oil pressure sender switch set at 4psi) I was thinking of running 2 or even 3 in the future to get more 'load points' but have not done so as yet..
As for fuel there is a version of the 4afe that runs a carby -- I assume it's dizzy would run with vacuum advance module? I fitted a dual diaphram vac advance unit to my 265 turbo which ran vac advance as well as boost retard. simple and effective. If you could retro fit one of those dizzy's with a boost retard module to your AE92 EFI system you would essentially be tricking the ECU to take out timing under boost, but be exactly as factory while off boost. Just be sure to disable the vacuum advance part of the diaphram as you dont want to double up on your vac advance!.
It takes a long time to tune every possible point on a map to get it just right, and thats with air temp, coolant temp etc etc compensation that changes things all the time. Yes it can be done but there is nothing wrong with a factory ECU and a little bit of extra fuel under boost to keep it happy. Tried and tested works well and retains factory manners.
just my 2c!
