A map sensor and o2 sensor will usually keep an engine running during the time a TPS isn't connected, but I'm pretty sure without the TPS connected the ECU will go into limp home mode (diagnostics mode), and will not allow revs very easily. Also with no TPS your air/fuel ratio will go to shit and you will probably chew up a hell of alot of fuel.
I could be wrong, but I suggest you get a TPS anyway... And a multimeter to adjust it properly.
