You're an engineer... make one for half that![]()
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows of a shift light that works independent of an aftermarket taco... all the ones I've seen so far seem to work codependently with a (usually huge) taco... I don't want a super flash one either... just somewhere around the $50 mark, so long as it's reliable...
Cheers

I doubt there is many for $50, unless you can find one second hand. I remember seeing these in a magazine article ages ago, no idea if they're any good or cost etc. No idea how it gets it's readings etc, so might pay to ask
Within the 100% Carbon Fiber case both shift lights feature a full Microprocessor sampling your RPM signal in 16bit resolution at 0.0000045 of a second (222,222 times per second).

Jaycar make a kit called a frequency switch.
I use a shift light from chiptorque http://www.chiptorque.com.au/products.html#sl
wasn't that costly and small, you can leave the LED alone or put it in a little tube like i did.
cheers
Jaycar also do a multi-stage shift light. So has 3 lights. Green, yellow and red. And lights up depending on how you set it. Could have this or just use one of them. I paid around $32 for mine a few years back.

I got one on my car and it's awesome.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll look into them all...
TERRA - What's required to hook that Shift-i up? will it work with a distributored ignition or is it one of those fang-dangled ignitor only ones?
Timbo - I'm a mechanical engineer... not electrical. I wouldn't know where to start with something like that...

Speco have a standalone shiftlight.
The Gizzmo one is a nice little 2 stage unit.
Project:RA65 with an engineered 1ggte conversion.
Daily:MA61 - 5me stock auto shitheap.
The shift-i just needs +12v, ground, and tacho input. You calibrate it to suit your system. I'll dig out the manual tomorrow and see what it says.
look up the datasheets for the LM2907 and LM3914. there are circuits in the applications index in the back that, when combined, would pretty much make a configurable shift light.
