Default 3SGE alternator into RA28 charge light issue???

*EDIT* Ive done some searching and found a lot on the wirring subject but nothing that addresses my problem, thanks to all

So the 18RG is gone and the 3S is in.

New Alt is in and charging and external Voltage Reg gone.

    Wires are;

B - to battery (charge cable)
Ig - ignition (12v switched at ignition)
    S - sencing wire (12v charge reference)
    L - lamp (charge light)

So prob is charge light does not go completely out when the car is running.

Things to think about are the the alt provides the ground and then removes it when charging starts and all is good. ( call this situation A)

Now i could be wrong,(Im not the best at reading wiring dyagrams, but the one below says I am...I think?), but I had thought that in the old system the Alt provided the 12V to light up the bulb and then took it away when charging. ( call this situation B)

Now if the new alt L wire is conected ( situation A) with car not running and Ig on then we get a nice solid charge light on as it should be. But start the car and it only goes half out as the earth is taken away.

Now in testing if you have the Ig on and disconect the L wire then the light glows dimly, (same thing going on as above but not using the Alt to drop the earth, (Situation A)
But at this piont when youve take away the ground and you applie 12V to the wire (situation B) then the light goes completly out. This is my under standing of how the originage Alt did the job,( but could be wrong).
So if i run it this way the charge light would only ever glow dimly but would go out properly when charging was underway.

The other option (A) would see the glow well but never go right out.

So im a bit stuke in the middle of two options, but neather really work????

Out of interest I thought id combine both options and see cards came up. Hooked up a relay to provide an earth while Ig on and car not running to provide a good charge light, then as the car starts and charge circut starts to swap to a positive feed so the light goes fully out. Now this works well until to you turn the Ig on and then straght off with out starting the car. It some how keeps the Ig circut alive with about 4.5V that seems to be running back from the L wire on the Alt through the relay and in to the Ig circut and not leting the the main relay click off when you turn the key off, so result is that you cant kill the ignition. Interestingly if you put any load on the system ( e.g. indercator lights) then the power drain imedeatly flicks the main relay off.

Regarlise somthings a little more cocked up that just my spelling....

My thoughts are a bad earth on the charge light in the dash so it only glows dimly,(but all the others are working fine???), then you take away the power and its off (situation B).

Or ....that ummm.... there is a slight short to earth on the charge light in situation A so that when the Alt drops the earth the light sort of still stays on.
*EDIT* I tend to think this is what is really going on, as Ive found that if I dont connect the L wire at all then the light is dimly on, now I would have thought that nothing should happen?? Thing to note is that non of the other lights in the cluster seem to have an earth problem.

Now i think ive got that alright?
Thanks for reading it all, couldnt think of an easyer way of writing it all, and it took way longer to go through it all on the car.
So if you follow it all please give me your thoughts on the problem as you obviously know a little about the subject.
    Thanks
    Timon

Oh and is it a possablity that the grounding issue, ( if thats what is realy going on is just throught the reg in the Alt maybe cos of the way ive wired it ??

Anyway would appreseate the input of someone who knows which way round the L wiring sould be so can look for the fault.
Here is the wiring diagram. (thanks to who ever posted it up first. As I have borrowed it), Im not the best at disifering it but to me it says the car is situation A just like the Alt is.

there is a choke relay of some description under the dash on the right hand side near the accelerator cable, afaik it causes feedback thru the charge light circuit which is why it stays that dim red even whilst the alternator is working perferctly, i believe he just pulled it out (as it was no longer any use) and problem solved

for more info PM 3BarSuperstar as he was the one that fixed the problem on 2 of my customers cars.

    cheers

Sweet thanks for that i will look into it. I have herd another relay click on and off under there and had just suposed it as the main ignition relay or something coming on with the ignition. It was the one I had eluded to in my post being held on by the way i wired the other relay i had put in.
    Ill check it out.
    Thanks
