My repair manual lists 22re torque specs as "valve cover bolts/nuts ... 80-120 in-lbs"
got a torque wrench?
there are online versions of the service repair manuals which contain stuff like this if you dont want to buy one.
Limited mechanical knowledge here so please, have mercy.
I've an oil leak from the tappet cover or valve cover or whatever it's called or at least I'm assuming that's where it's coming from as there is oil collecting atop the water pump housing which is more or less straight below the tappet cover. Seems to me that's the only place it could be leaking unless of course the oil is leaking further below and making it's way up.
The actual bolts that hold down the tappet cover don't seem to want to tighten up, but, I know they shouldn't be overtightened, so, the question is, how tight is tight enough ????
Any help appreciated
Trevor

Keep in mind thats in/lb not ft/lb!!!!
That works out to about 9-10 ft/lb if i'm not mistaken
The 18R-G. The GOOD 2 Litre Tractor motor.
yes, very important
Thanks for the replies men. I've discovered that the torque spec on the valve cover is 52 in/lbs which equates to 4.45 ft/lbs. No wonder it leaks. Hardly seems worth tightening it up, though I will.
