Caldina is how much newer than a 165?
Im having enough trouble keeping up with all the maintenance jobs needed for my 185 (rubber/plastic items cracking, CVs, seals, etc).
A 165 would be worse again, and parts are harder to find.

my ST185 is a daily driver on country roads - road edges are harsh on tyres but otherwise a great way to get to work ;-)

as for the engine over heating i beleive he didnt drill into the head all the way but the fourth bolt wont go in anylonger so :S im just going off what a mechanic told me im not sure if there is a small leak of coolant into the oil or if there is a clog where the coolant wont flow through im not 100% sure just yet i will be pulling it out soon and having a look at it
I would try an diagnose the overheating issues before you go much further, and find out if he caused it. If he did a quick phone call to consumer trading should should sort him out.

Your talking big dollars for a rebuild so make sure you know what your in for. As long as your happy to have a big learning curve and engine swap/rebuild is possible but defiantly not easy.

gee wizz, ... problem solved in my last post.....

Just get a new engine and put it in, full engine gasket kit for near 500 bucks... replace all the gaskets, mess around with engine mounts and engine mount brackets till it fits in... The tmic WONT, so do the whole fmic and piping thing (under the st162/5, not sure about the 184/5)...., lower the north south crossmember slightly so it doesnt vibrate underneath.... get it wired up professionally or you will be asking toymods questions and getting frustrated everyday..... SHOULDNT HAVE A PROBLEM....

The only problem with a 3sgte engine is with the ones that have been sitting the engine bay for 10- 20 years with the owner "loving his car" for that time, or power modifications on engines that havent been completely "sealed" with new gaskets. ...hehee...... the 3sgte is tough, a good little goer and when you put a new engine in, there should be no reason for it to play up, if your using a 205 there should also be no reason why you shouldnt beat a wrx anyway... this depends on whether your the sort of person to break the speed limit to prove your cars worth.... in that case the wrx will probably build more speed, as well as an evo, maybe even a 200kw aurion will...... but who needs 200kph when the cars made to change directions and squirt its way through tight tracks like a rabbit on steriods. Use the car for what its made to do and you have a nasty little competitor vs anyone. you definately wont BEAT eveyone, but they will start to sweat when your bonnet is still next to theres when "yesterday" a car worth $150,000 had no chance..... thats the thrill... the sideways glance from a nervous porche owner.......the st162 with turbo will be very fast in a straight line being lighter with no rear running gear, ... but dont try and make that car "perform" cause it wont dance like a awd in and out of corners.

. ...... disrepect the car with modifications....(you either like cars or you like the fact that your cars quicker then someone elses, and in that case you really dont like "cars".. so use the lightest cheepest shell you can and play with your bits and pieces...... If you constantly want your car to be quicker then something made years afterr yours stop winging about problems, they are all part of what you have to put up with when you rape a car, ......... if you use the st162 with a 205 or 215 engine .... (of course the awd gearbox will be ueless... so bold it up to a front wheel drive one)....... will be a rocket...

the st165 parts aren't hard to find, they are just far away and expensive to get. i need new driveshaft bearing bushes.... 250 each from japan, need 2, plus 100 gst/postage. then thats the last "genuine" replacement part I need...... ( alway keep an ear out for front wheel bearings starting to go, .. cause if they go to far, you will need a new hub... NOW THATS NOT EASY TO FIND as a second hand part.... but you can pay a mint at toyota for it.
