    Default RA60 brake hose length?

    Hi,
Can anyone confirm the approx length and fittings for the flexible brake hose used on an RA40 Celica that goes from the front caliper to the strut?

    Cheers,
    Simon

Are you just interested in the calliper to strut length, or the whole unit?? The front flexibles on an RA40 are the same as RA23/28 in case that may help too. Oh, and you might want to check your thread title, it disagrees with your question...

I'll measure my RA23 when I get home tomorrow if you would like.

OK, I just want to know the length of the flexible brake hose on the RA60 that goes from the caliper to the strut.

I assume its in 2 pieces like the TA22? I'm only interested in the length that joins to the front caliper.

Reason is I'm hoping to use it on my TA22 to suit the hilux 4 spot caliper conversion....

    Cheers,

    Simon

RA23 runs 165mm hose flange to flange from the strut to the calliper. I can vouch for this being the same as RA40, however RA60 may be off by a few mm (assuming RA60 doesn't have a fixed line from strut to calliper)

Thanks I bought a hose today from an RA60. This is a flexible line and is a perfect fit into the TA22 with hilux calipers. I think the SA63 Celica also has the same lines as the RA60.

    The RA23/28 are different lengths.

    Hi Simon,

Who did you end up getting your RA60 brake lines though?
I'm looking for a pair as well.

    Hey,

Just got my new PBR hoses (H1583) and I'll be buggered if I can get them to fit. They fit to the front of the bracket on the strut no worries but won't wrap around to the back. Dumb question but I've had my car apart for so long now I can't remember if that hose is supposed to go to the front of the bracket or the back?

If it goes to the front, then my top hose is way too short to reach around to the back of the bracket. If the top hose goes to the front of the bracket, then my bottom hose is too short to go to the back.

My bracket points opposite way to the wheels (ie towards the engine). I'm assuming this is correct.

An issue could be that I have had the struts shortened to take a shorter insert (SW20 MR2). They took the length out of the top of the strut though...not the bottom meaning the relationship between the calliper and the bracket should not be affected right???

    I'm a wee bit confused...any advice appreciated.

    Thanks,

They were a perfect fit in my TA22.

    Hi Simon.

Thanks very much for going to the effort of taking the picture for me.

My issue is I've put the struts in so the callipers are at the front...not the rear.

I installed them that way because on the dedicated [Guide] Corona/Peugot/Hilux Conversion with Height Adjustable Coilovers thread on these forums, people were adamant that the callipers MUST be installed at the front!

If you've got them at the back without any issues and that's the way the hoses fit...then that looks like the winner!

I don't understand why people say to have them at the front, plenty of cars have them this way.

Perhaps they mean for the hilux calipers that have 2 size pistons where one is leading. But for these on the rear is fine.

Just for interest, my M3 has the calipers on the rear too, theres no way BMW would put them that way if they were better on the front side....

    Cheers,
    Simon

The reason people have to have them at the front is they can cause clearance issues. Check them out for yourself to see if you have any issues.
In fact if you have the different sized piston calipers (2 bigger, 2 smaller pistons) you should NOT run them on the front, the way they are designed with the different sized pistons they are meant to even out the pad pressure and therefore wear less. This only works when they are towards the rear like in their original application.

Interesting....how does having them on the front change provide more clearance? The only thing that will change for clearance is on the tie rod ends, the clearance to the wheel won't change if they are swapped....

They clash with some of the shorter steering arms IIRC. If you run RCAs it helps with this clearance though

I changed mine around so now the callipers are at the back and the hoses have sorted themselves out.
It is a very very tight squeeze though (calliper and steering arm). I would say that the two are just barely barely touching.

    Is this an issue??

    Also what's an RCA?
