when i removed mine on my R32 i just plugged up he hole lol... the tank has breathers so dont need to worry bout that shit its only venting fumes, not pressure
hey all,
having a poke around the 18RG today so it can be ready for a blue slip next week...and mounted to the passenger side of the fire wall is a charcoal canister...?!!? wait, it gets weirder.
the line from the tank is still connected. the one that goes to the carby is not existant.... and the breather from the rocker cover has a T section, where it goes back to the sump...and then to the bottom of the charcoal canister.....which makes me think its not releiving any pressure at all.this struck me as kinda weird, whats the deal with this, do i need to have the charcoal canister, or is this left over from when the car had an 18R-C?? and in which case, what the heck do i do with the line from the tank should i deem it uneeded. if anyone has any idea as to what to do, it would be awesome, thanks

Your car should still have to meet the pollution specs for the year that it was manufactured. if it had a charcoal canister then it should still have one fitted today. the canister is designed to help eliminate fumes from the fuel tank from venting to atmosphere, If it is not fitted then it does not comply with the relevant ADR and therefor can possibly not get passed.
You may get away with it but you may not

aha! ill have to look up the relevent pollution laws then.
with my first post, my main concern was why the rocker cover breather was plumbed to the charcoal canister, like they were trying to use it as a filter or somewhat, cos it certainly does nothing now.
thanks for the help

The rocker cover depending on what year 18rg should be plumbed to the intake manifold via the pcv valve. I have a emission book some where that I will chase up the plumming.Found it. the cannister is plummed to the intake manifild and via the check valve on the top of the canister back to the fuel tank. the bigger hose on the bottom of the cannister just feeds into the chassis rail and to atmosphere.

it goes back in before your carbies. On the original setup there is a point on airbox type thing that attaches to the carbs. Most aftermarket filter usually have a point on the rear for this to go or the ones on my engine do.

You could just plumb it back to your intake manifold and slide a ball bearing up the pollution hose so it looks like its all connected and working.

Firstly, DO NOT PLUG THE LINE FROM THE TANK. I did this in my RA23 when I installed my first 18R-G, and the fuel started leaking out of the fuel cap. I did some research on here, and found my mistake, opened the line back up, and immediately releaved the fuel tank pressure issue.
Second, the PCV in the head should be T'd to the PCV in the block, then it gets hooked into the intake between the air filter and the carby (most aftermarket filters have a port for this). This is required to pass emissions laws.
Third, the line from the canister to the carby needs to go into a vacuum port, found between the carby butterfly and the head. There will be one hole per port, however only one will have a fitting in it most likley, the other 3 will have blockoffs. Just replace one of the blockoffs with a 3/16" barb and you should be in business. As mentioned by others, the bottom port in the canister vents to the chassis rail.
