    Default Illegal Activities/Piracy

Ok, so i know that there are differing levels of what is interpreted as illegal in this world, but to have threads in the Non Car Discussion area openly talking about software piracy is just as illegal as street drifting or other "hoon" like activities.

Personally, as a club member, i don't think that this is the message that the club should be putting across, just the same as we don't condone illegal activities on the road (as stated on the blurb "legitimate motor sport events. No street racing etc.")

Now, i know im not the adjudicator of the forum, but i also know that there are some out there who have already objected to these threads, and so this thread is for Forum and Club members alike to express their views on the topic.

*note* Keep this thread civil. -rep will be applied for flaming, rude, or derogatary posts.

    Hi,

Agreed. This forum represents the Toymods Club and as a club member it also reflects upon me.

You should report any such thread to the mods so it can be stamped out.

Yes, I would agree on this matter, that illegal is illegal and and reflects on our club.
And it would be hypocritical to say one form of law braking is wrong and deleted from the forums, but another is ok.

I agree wholeheartedly, Not just because im a Club Member, but because it reflects on what i do for a living. Im a software licensing consultant / compliancy auditor, thus this kind of practice irks me as it hurts my industry.. and the club!

People need to realise that code takes time to build, implement, troubleshoot and debug. that code requires time and people to do it. staff require payment for such tasks. making good quality software costs MONEY! and you dont automatically obtain the right to use the software for free just because the company who made it is worth $64 Billion USD. Once the software is manufactured, it doesnt stop there.. there are ongoing support costs.. there are development costs in patches and bugfixes.. the costs keep coming in even though the product has gone to market. I think its pretty fair to pay $80 for a game which gives you days to weeks of enjoyment when you can easily pay $200 for a hooker for a 45 minute root and think thats worth it.

    Hi,

Good point mate.... now if some company could make a USB-powered wanking tool that attched to your PC and a hot, wild game, then I'm sure you'd take some business off the hookers!

as far as i can tell the issue isnt with the illegal activity, but the fact it is talked about on the forums, not allowed to past illegal driving activities such as street racin/drifting etc. so why should people be allowed to post about the illegal activity of software piracy

I don't download MP3's for free, all of my music I itunes (6days of it) me and or my brother own the original copy of.

Agreed that threads reagrding illegal piracy of games/torrents for movies etc should not be allowed, a while ago some were closed, maybe the mods haven't seen them and or they haven't been reported to them yet.
    If in doubt power out

yeh im not saying that threads like that shouldnt be deleted cos yes they are about illigal activity, im just saying i think theres a really gray line about illigal pirate and copyright, as i believe ALOT of people download free music, everyone i no does it, but then people say cracking games and everything is illigal but the same people download music ?
personally i think downloading music should be made legal, as when its online its to hard to police and all that, and is basically just file sharing ? though i have been doing it ever since i can remember and used to love napster before they shut it down :< i dunno just some thoughts, sorry to hijack the thread

I haven't seen any threads like this get reported to the moderators at all. Can I get links etc?

To tell the truth I tend to stay away from the non car talk area of the forum as much as possible because it just pisses me off.

The stance of the board has always been no piracy or other illegal activities promoted on the forum. The problem is that we need to see it before anything can be done. This is where you guys come in, reporting the thread brings it to my or one of hte other guys attention. This is also one of hte things that your rep power should be used for, if you see someone doing stuff on the forum that you think brings it into ill repute then give them negative rep and tell them why.

The problem has now been resolved Josh. From the timestamps it only arose this morning, and i posted this in my morning surf.
I normally stay clear of the Non-Car Discussion forum too but as it was the last posted item it drew my attention from the front page. It was reported soon after.

This thread should serve as a good reference for others who may consider that their illegal activities can be freely discussed on this forum.

Why woudl we want to do that? By implication it means that the Club therefore has something to hide.
