    Default Diff Rebuilds

    Hey,

Just weighing up my options here,

I was just wondering what people are paying for diff rebuilds? mainly just installing new ring and pinions but possibly new bearings/seals.

Thinking about going to F series and setting up a few interchangable centers with cheap ring & pinions from the US but im not setup to change/rebuild diffs my self.

On that note, how hard is it to rebuild a diff your self?

youl find LOTS of how to's on boostcruising. dunno if that one will help but it is a step by step with pics on dismantling a diff.

From memory I paid about $200-250 ea. (total walk in off the street price) at Trans gears and diffs in Thomastown. I supplied all parts, including bearings, they built it and did a solid spacer in one too.

I've never rebuilt a diff, but from what I read it would be a little time consuming and maybe tricky first time out. After that I'd guess you'd have the hang of it and it'd be a lot easier.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

I recently had a differential rebuilt at Trans Diffs and was not satisfied with the work. A friend of mine had a Hilux diff fitted with a TruTrac approximately a week earlier and he was also not satisfied with the work.

It seems that their reputation no longer reflects their quality of work.
