yeah it was from canada. They also have a conversion kit for the 1j to suit a ma61 and ma70 supra.
The rubber mounts looked like the ones Sheepers used on his ra23 1jzgte.
I was looking at adapting the kit to suit a 1jz conversion into a ra28.
If thats the conversion kit from canada i bought them and they didnt fit. Not sure if it was a rhd/lhd issue though.

Ok so i decided to go with a rear sump setup now instead of the front mostly because i want all the oil i can get and i cant be stuffed getting the front 1 modded. So if anyone wants to swap a front sump for a 1jz for a rear 1 let me know lol!
When my mate n i pulled the old 22r out of the hilux we checked the speedo cable connection and its mechanical but the r154 uses an electrical item, anybody know of a mechanical item that'll fit into the r154? My mate said you can get a box that can convert it from electrical to mechanical but nothing came up about it through google...
i cant remember what i did but i plugged my cable straight in . have you got a non -remote shifter r154 ?
or maybe chase up an old ma70 box or something they might have a cable drive
or even cheaper and easier just buy a apexi RSM . then you wont have to worry about getting your tacho to work either .
I've got an aftermarket tacho (not a monster 5" or anything) so i'm not worried bout that... i'm gunna buy a speedo as well but just wanted something till then so i'm not guessing my speed by the revs lol! Guess its probably just easier to buy the bloody speedo and be done with it... also going to try and upload some photos of the build so far theres pics of the engine and box in there so feel free to have a look

some of the r154 boxes come with cable speedo as well. have you pulled the electronic speedo drive out to see if it is gear driven... you won't need to worry about it if you're using an aftermarket ecu. If it is mechanically driven pull the old one out and take it to the wreckers and compare it to other mecanical units. i've had a same problem with an sr20 conversion into a 75 B1600.
I'm running the stock ecu at the moment, will probably upgrade later. thinking I'll eventually use it as a drag car just unregister it and go full drag spec 9" rear diff, slicks, no tray and single turbo setup. Want it as a daily till then tho...![]()
I've heard that the r154 came with a mechanical drive but screwed if i can find 1.Would definitely make things a whole lot easier! The speedo drive I have is electrical. Going to a few wreakers in the next few days so will check through with them for any mechanical drives that'll fit
I'm pretty sure too that the engine originally came with an auto box attached but whoever had it in japan must have swapped the r154 into it because the trans hole in the cabin had been cut to fit the shifter. Not sure if it's a non remote shifter how do i tell?
the 2 boxes i have are both mechanical from a jza70 and ma70. When they use the mechanical unit the speedo head has a digital converter attached directly behind it which i think goes to the computer. I don't really know if it'd be required anyway on a manual vehicle. if you can post up some pictures or dimensions of the speedo drive i can compare it to mine if you wish.
Alright man will try to put up foto's but last time I tried toymods kept telling me that the foto's were to big but dont have a program to mod them. If u have an e-mail address i'll send them to you. sorry if it's a stuff around but it's the only way i can haha![]()
just create a photobucket acc. or similar. You can resize them on there.
Ok sorry its been ages since i last posted on here but my computer crapped itself so we've just now managed to get a new 1!
Since the last time i was on here i got myself a rear sump so thats all sorted and i got the name of a company that can fix the speedo cable problem...
I also managed to lose my licence unfortunately but the upside is i can now spend more time on the car till i get it back in 6 months haha
I've also opened up a flickr account with photo's of the hilux on there www.flickr.com/photos/sgtlux
Figured i'd put these picture's up of the drive out of my 22R's autobox
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/...43196fc9_o.jpg
and the drive from the halfcut's R154

And also sum picture's of the box itself not sure on how to tell if it's a remote shifter or not...

If anyone needs photo's of anything in particular dont hesitate to ask, more then happy to oblige
There is definitely a mechanical sender that will fit your box as I've watched somebody fit one, I have zero idea what it came out of though (he did buy it from Repco/Autobarn though).
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

They advertise it will fit any Toyota gear box. Now you can use a electronic speedo.
Ok cool so i might have to check out the local's got about 3 stores of each company within 20mins of home... With any luck 1 of them will have what i'm afteralso checked out the link to driftmotion and that would b perfect if it wasn't in America, at least there's always that option if nothing else turns up... Cheers guys!
