wastegate stuck open?
negative... ive seen hairline cracks prevent boost... because basically under pressure and heat in the manifold it becomes a hole... but while the manifold is cold the crack can "heal" making it difficult to spot... trust me ive done plenty
also rota... PLEASE, spend the money and buy genuine gaskets where you can, or HIGH quality exhaust gaskets, not those steel shim pieces of shit or those gaskets that come with china turbo kits with matting in the middle which are designed for N/A cars.... i know if you have a custom setup it becomes a little difficult, but spend the money where you can, because you wont regret it...
sez me after laughing at my mate doing his turbo gaskets on his CA18det 4 times because he wouldnt listen to me.. in the end i told him, ok, if i buy the gaskets and they dont work, fine ill live with the bill, if they work you pay me double.. haha i made an easy $200 that day mwahahaha..

wastegate stuck open?
RA23 - Twincharged
JZZ20 - Daily
Cheers for the help so far guys.
I've allready bought the gaskets for the turbo from turbo tech and they were the steel shim ones by the look of it. But thats all they had.
I still need to get the gaskets from the exhaust manifold to my Y pipe and it looks like they will have to be genuine as no one else makes them.
Luckily toyota spare parts are so well priced, only $87 for 2 small triangle shaped gaskets
Also i did pull the dump pipe off and check that the wastegate was sealed closed properly and it seemed fine.
Well now that 3 of us have mentioned it i would seem to think fix all your exhaust leaks and you should fix the problem by the sounds of it.
Wish I had a F#%ken awesome toyota.. saving for the goodness now.... stay tuned....
Okay, i have fixed the exhaust leak now and it is running better.
Also ive put the old 1ggte afm back on and it has fixed the leaning out issue. So for anyone looking, a 3sge afm wont work on a 1ggte.
I just need to find a better condition 1g afm now because mine is playing up badly.
After fixing the exhaust leak it has gone from making 7psi with the wastegate line connected to 10psi. And it only boosts to 15psi with the wastegate line disconnected.
So it still isnt fixed yet, im assuming that the wastegate spring might be stuffed.
I'll try wiring the wastgate closed next chance i get to see if that is the problem.
