Best to get new ones as old ones may or may not leak.

matt, the standard metal gaskets between the head and exhaust mani, are fine to reuse.
there probably better than buying new crappy ones really

Call Toyota genuine for hard to find gaskets. Just got a heap for my 1ggte, there not as expensive as you might think and it saves alot of time looking.

just smear some copper max silicone over the oem gaskets and you should be fine.

thats average.. it took half a day to put the engine in so maybe easier to remove and do it out of the car.. does look very tight..

    ive done it both ways,
and id be allmost inclined to say that it is in fact easier to take the motor out and do it

requires use of a friend with small hands/wrists/arms, and also a contrived combination of socket extensions and uni joins. And liberal application of Inox/WD40.

    And swearing. Lots of swearing.

Agree with Draven, I did mine on a 1g-gte, The most annoying thing was getting at the bolts for the oil drains. Then there is random supports that bolt from the block to the turbos for extra rigidity I believe, this was on a 1g-gte, but you'll find even on the 1jz it's an annoying job to do without pulling the motor.

Thing is the old gaskets will be squashed when taken out, so when you re-apply them, they might leak where as new ones will get squashed when you apply them and create a good seal, but you could re-use the old ones if you want to.

As for that copper max stuff, Isn't the maximum temperature rating 500 Celcius? Doesn't the exhaust near the turbos get over 500 Degrees? Or does that stuff still hold up?

    Thanks.

So i was thinking of using that Copper max silicone stuff http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...sket_Maker.htm Is rated to 371 Degrees, how well will it hold up in a turbocharged application?

    turbo > 500 degC

to be hones, your old gaskets will probably be fine - I've reused 1j and 2j gaskets after crushing, no leaks

youd be stupid to reuse the standard manifold to turbocharger gasket after going thru the bullshit which is taking them off....

and from factory they are a crush gasket.. meaning basically the first time you torque them down and get it hot... its now ready for the bin if you take it off again.... but id still use them if they were that new..

but seriously.. for the price of them from toyota... and the age of your standard ones.. get new ones, my recommendation is toyota genuine ONLY... man the amount of aftermarket turbocharger gaskets ive blown that havent even lasted a week have made me learn that genuine is best..
