    Default replacing a 22r

Im just intriguied to whether an 18rg will bolt in the place of a 22re in an 85 corona.
in being the same series engine "R" will it bolt upto the w55 thats in my car and will the engine mounts be close to that of the 22r. Im a bit bored of the 22re as its no power house which is fine but its not even fun to drive. Plus its knocking fairly severly now so i need to replace it.
    Cheers Josh

Yes it will bolt in easily, bellhousing and engine mount bolt patterns are the same. You may need to swap sump and oil pickup depending on what the 18R-G comes with but that's pretty easy.

Note that for legality you will need to get your hands on a late-model 18R-GEU.

Can 18R head go on 22R bottom?

What about turboing the 22R? I did look at it years and years ago for an old Bundera i had, but decided against it as they already have enough dramas with headgaskets!

But if you could get a metal head gasket and arp bolts, the thing would probably hang on to 10psi of boost with the right fuelling etc. Just have to ask one's self if its worth spending money on a 22R when 1UZ's or 1JZ's are so cheap....

No, not without a lot of machining anyway.

Well been doing a 21r into the 40

The mounts can be moved forward on the 21r block putting then in the right position.
the passanger side needs to be modified a bit to work.
