are 4age cranks steel or cast?
and were they all the same from 1st gen to blacktop??
where does the hp limit of the std crank end.
    thanks

There's three types of cranks but you're only likely to come across one of them.
The two unlikely ones are the very early 4AGE, which had a 4AC crank with six bolts to hold the flywheel on, and then the big-port crank which has 40mm big-end journals. The most common these days is the small-port & 20v & GZE crank which has 42mm big-end journals.
The 42mm crank is good for over 400hp.
    They are all steel.

Also in my opinion you should ask what RPM are the standard cranks good for (which itself depends on the rod and piston weights).

    Otherwise I agree with Bill.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

the 4age will be used in ip and will be restricted turbo so it won't be able to rev.
and the rods and pistons will be aftermarket.

thanks for the info, looks like a std crank will do.
while we are on the subject of strength whats the toughest factory fwd gearbox to sit next to a 4age. 4agze?? an d did the z's have a different clutch spline?

    thanks

4AGZE gearboxes are stronger than the 4AGE boxes, E51 or E53, fairly bulletproof and come with LSD options. They also run a larger clutch spline that matches the a supra gearboxe and have a larger 225mm clutch, as apposed to 215mm and 200mm on the atmo motors.

the 42mm big end cranks also have equal counterweights, where the earlier 40mm cranks counterweights are not equal. Top crank has 40mm rod journals, bottom crank the larger 42mm journals. The yellow lines show the counterweights that are different

E51 and E52 boxes are stronger than the later E58. Choose your ratios from these boxes, and you'll have a nice strong box that has a bit of option for setting up ratios (it's what I'm currently doing for my AE101 4AGZE Levin).

these are also common in the 4AFE and 4AFC - my current 3 rib setup uses one of these.
