Steering box woes, ke26

Hey guys need abit of help figuring out my steering box on my ke26, it was steering alright originally but i removed all the steering arms, pitman etc but left the steering box bolted up, my mate thought he'd be helpful and unbolt the top of the steering box where you adjust it, dropped all the oil and all the gears of the box fell out. ive put them back in just to see how far out the steering was and put the arms back up the way i took them off but now when the wheel is centred (stopper for steering arms is centered, it turns left heaps but barely turns right, can only get a 1/4 turn if that out of it before it hits the stops. what is the best way to get the steering centered? im not sure how the steering boxes are meant to be set out. anybody messed around with these things much?

take it to a steering box reco place and get it done right?

Im guessing the drop arm off the steering box is sitting in the wrong place on the spline?
Drop it off with the wheels pointing straight forward, centre the box (turn full lock each way and count number of turns before returning to the middle) and then put it back on the spline.

also you may need adjust the steering box since its been apart.
This is best done out of the car, for the right feel.
But what you have to do is get the front wheels off the ground
loosen the lock nut on the adjuster then get someone to turn the steering wheel till if feels hard to turn, then back off the adjuster till they only feel a slight bind while going through center of steering.
then retighten lock nut.
You should test drive it making sure it returns to centre, if it does not loosen the adjuster a bit more. it may only take 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn.
you should also not feel any looseness in the steering wheel when the wheels are on the ground.

i tried to do what wde bdy said but i can't get the shaft that the pitman arm bolts to (drop arm?) to mesh up with the steering column shaft teeth. i found where the middle of the shafts travel is but can't get the shaft to sit down all the way in the box it only goes a little bit then stops. im assuming it shouldn't be that hard to get in but its got me abit stumped as i don't want to have to force it cos i shouldn't have to.
any tips? :S
