Whats the point?
1geu= turd
1gfe= turd
1ggte same shit but a chance of skidz'
Imports are so cheap in NZ just go buy a R32GTR. Cheap fast fun what more do you want.

Hello people,
I have a ga61 Chaser with the standard 1geu in it and 5 speed and have been thinking about the 1gfe as a good solid na conversion for it and something different.
I dont know if this has been done easily on here before or not and cant find very much info about it going into ga61 chaser? It would certainly be fun and different with some power at a fairly good price if it fitted in without to many hassles? I think i could get awy with it not even being certified here haha, or maybe not?
Theres a few main questions that i would need to dicuss here about it, the rest i should be able to sort myself over time.
1st, Can i use a w series bell to 1gfe engine?
2nd, Are the mounts close in location on the blocks of the 1gfe compared to the 1geu?
3rd, Has anyone done this so i can read up all about it?
Thanks![]()

FYI, Chaser = GX61. GA61 is a Celica XX
As for your answers
1. Yes, flywheel bolt pattern *may* be different (1GE is 6 bolt, 1GFE *may* be 8 bolt)
2. Not sure, Google around for some pics of a 1GFE and compare it to a 1GGTE (1GGTE and 1GE are hte same)
3. HIGHLY unlikely. I've never heard of anyone putting a 1GFE into anything.

You may well have serious issues with the computer setup, I understand they tie into the body loom as well (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). For the cost, just get a 2JZ-GE. Will be a much more effective conversion and there is actually an NZ member here doing a similar conversion with a 2JZ-GTE.

So is your car up with that sort of GTR potential then?.... maybe?, (I happen to have a friend with a very fast GTR actually and they are great cars) but does everything have to run like a "cutcat" to you? I bet your another one of those fellas that doesnt really respect cars for what they are and just how they go right? Thats not a real car enthusiast aye....
If you admire GTRS that much what are you doing on a Toyota forum? What you have got to understand is... that not everything revolves around speed and to accept and respect others opinions before opening that mouth up might help you get round that next corner.
Theres a guy up in auckland that has just put a 1gfe from a gx81 in his gx61.
1. Yes you can use a normal 1geu bellhousing and flywheel
2. I believe there are another set of holes on the 1gfe block to bolt mounts 2. I know you dont need custom mounts anyway.
3. I dont know if hes done a right up on it but i can PM you his email
Hi Ryan, I was just reading about your toyota then very cool car mate well done! and you are from NZ too thats great!
Yes if you could post message the email to me that would be fantastic? I had a feeling that they shouldnt be that much different. Are you in any clubs here in NZ?![]()
Going by your post, i take it yourve never driven a 1gfe or 1ggte with simple mods have you?
I know for a fact that a 1gfe with and exhaust and some headers can spin the wheels plenty.
A friend of mine had a 1ggte with nothing but a T04E and it made 200kw easy
Pays to get your facts right before you right people off mate
Sorry, when I wrote my post I was assuming you were talking about an IS200 1GFE with VVTi.
If its an early gen 1GFE then everything will be bolt in like Ryan says.

A 1G is just such a tiny engine for a large car,i would have thought a 2j would be better.
If the orignal engine is ok why change it.
I have driven an IS200 and they could do with a bit more poke.
As for the 1ggte i have owned a few over the years and still have a Rebuilt 1G+single turbo+ECU+injectors+Cam gears+3 in exhaust.
Sorry if my remarks have offended some people,True a 1G can make good power and in the right application they can be a great engine.

How do you know the original engine that i have is ok? its not ok. I am thinking of something different to do here! I think you offended me the most! and i am the one the you should be apologising too not the others mate.
I dont really care about your 2jz suggestion or your 1ggte that you have........if you cant help me out then dont comment in my posts, and just watch what you say and how you say it. thanks
Ok if you want to replace you 1G-EU with a 1988-1998 no VVti 1gfe.As a 1G has two mounting points on the block you can use your std mounts and gear box and swap the sump and pickup if needed. You can source your engine from any car.
Avoid using the larger flywheel like in post 88 1ggte as the clutch is twice the price.

I definatly think the 2jzge conversion is the best choice. You can get custom mounts that will bolt it in a will let you use your factory crossmember and driveshaft.
The 2jzges are a cheap engine, the pricey bit will be the fly, clutch and bell which will set you back about $1500
