just need a pvc tube on the vent to make oil escape more difficult

While you have the axles out you might as well do the axle bearings at the same time... i think a kit is about $30 an axle from CBC.

There is a thread here some where on toymods about making some simple baffles for the axle tubes too if you want to get really carried away!

    I had some radiator issues.

First I had a pinhole leak from the top, so Andrew soldered it up for me and we applied some kneadable epoxy to some developing cracks which held. I also replaced the radiator cap with a new one as the old one I had on there was looking pretty bad on the inside, but the only one the parts store had was a 100psi cap. On the last session the heater core decided it would relieve the pressure instead of the radiator cap, and put all the coolant in the passenger floor well whilst out on track with the wife as passenger so I retired 1 or 2 laps prior to the session ending (ps. she loved the experience and is a lot less worried about me being out on track now that she's seen how well the car handles).

Luckily, I have a new alloy one that I didn't get a chance to install prior, and will put a shut off valve on both heater pipes so that I can bypass the heater core (when I find a working one) for track days.

Here are some numbers to back up my assertions taken from the race, not the practice, so they might be a bit slower or a bit faster on the day given it was regularity not racing

I was pretty happy with my times. Although it's a different setup, I still achieved a personal best.

Van - What sort of times do you think we should individually be doing to be considered fast? *Considering our individual experience, setup and tyres

There's always areas of improvement to be had. Some suspension tuning still required, but overall it's not far off. It feels better than the last track day.

My brakes still have a few issues - Not sure if the bias is causing some issues or if the fluid is getting cooked... Probably both! It's also getting as hot as 105-110 after several laps of hard driving. I think I need some better coolant - or at least more concentrate - (I've been topping up with water since the initial fill) and a slightly higher pressure cap. Also has an oil leak from the front - suspect crankseal - and the top - suspect a small crack in the cam cover. The diff has a whine around 100kph, will get it shimmed again and change the oil.

Ed your about 5 sec off the mark
you need to get less weight in the car you removed a 2t and added the diff
that just transfered weight from the front to the back
having said that you do have strength in the back end now
extreme hi temp brake fluid and a bigger reservoir may help to reduce the overheating there
you need a tripple core radiator and/or relocate the intercooler to stop the restriction of air throught the radiator also run a hitemp engine oil and slightly overfill (again more oil better heat spread) also a bigger oil cooler may assist

these are my views feel free to add yours people

Ian was saying that there was an ra23 at pick a part on the weekend, he might be able to tell you if it had a heater core in it.

where do i sign for a pair of them?

had a good day, lack of power and lack of driver skill is letting the car down now, corner speed is very good as is braking, nice and stable all round, might have to get it on the dyno shortly and see if we can get some more power out of her, getting over dry rooting the steering on anything that resembles a straight

car performed flawlessly all day, only maintenance required for the day was adjust the Tyre pressures

    Hi Van,

I thought .06 of a sec of Matty's GTR was a fair effort. I have a mate with a 4a turbo with similar power who has blown 3 diffs in the past week under normal driving conditions. I've built this car to last, look good, race and also be able to be engineered and driven on the road.

If you have any practical driving advice I'd be happy to take it on board. Perhaps you should drive my car and see how many seconds can be shaved off my times. Without changing the setup. To be honest - I'm just having a bit of fun with this whole racing gig. In saying that, the car feels pretty fucking fast when it's keeping up with the big boys.

I was at the tampered day on Sunday and I think Eddie did an exceptional job on the track

Just a reminder about the BBQ. It's almost the end of September so if you wanna be part of some awesome food, let me know.
