I was hoping to upgrade the injectors in a 3VZ to a set of 7MGE injectors I have but I didn't check the type and despite having the same plug, same resistance they're a different and wont fit in the intake manifold.
As far as I can tell the main difference is that the 3VZ's are an air shrouded injector and 7MGE are not. What I'd like to know is if there is any way to get the injectors fit neatly or if I should seek air shrouded injectors? I've tried searching high and low on here and google but without the right terminology I can't source any information on the different valve types. All I could find was pintle or otherwise.
From the links on here the 3VZ injectors are "cone" while the 7MGE are "Ball"; I'd like to know if this refers to being fitted with an airshroud or not? What are the advantages of air shrouded injectors over those that are not and vice versa? What are the other options out there? How hard is it to source injectors that will fit the head and rail without having to modify more than the plugs (and pump, FPR etc)?
I know its a bit to ask but I've really struggled to find a reasonable strait forward answer to what are fairly basic questions.
Thanks.
EDIT:/ on inspection, other than the 3VZ's plugs being a different colour to that listed (grey instead of Brown), the nozzles look identical (both have a flat finish with 4 holes, 2 large, 2 smaller) except that the 3VZ has an 'o' ring with seating recess while the 7MGE have a rubber seat, the 3VZ injector is longer with a small recessed section that has 2 small holes and a second large rubber seat/seal 1/3 of the way up. The recessed section and second seal are obviously for the aeration. I suspect with the additional seats and depth required due to the aeration, none aerated injectors won't fit the head.
