Wow, your cooler must be nice and efficient then (and nicely oversized).
On the track I reckon mine (in its previous state) would have been close to 100degC

Although, rereading your post were those 2 x 3" air ducts there with the exposed pod as well? Coz they would help tremendously.

I'll check the numbers tonight and then give you the specs, I think you'll be surprised, I know the bloke who put his hand on my inlet manifold after I brought him in from a 20 minute session was certainly surprised

Ducts were only in place for the enclosed box.

Air box is more for noise control. On cruise the plumb back BOV sits slightly open and makes a hell of a racket.

Will get photos to show you space restriction...

Hate to burst your bubble if you think a home made box will quieten anything down because on mine and many others it made the BOV louder or just as loud as without it, I assume the box and ducts just sent the noise out of the bay.

OEM boxes and ducting have a fair bit of work go into them to reduce induction noise and what not, not something you can replicate with some sheet metal

My Ultra lap stated at the time of this session it was 19 degrees ambient temp and as you can see in the pic, at 15psi and giving it a fair hiding I saw a peak of 24 deg C down the main straight. My intercooler core is a small front mount (480mmx240mmx38mm). When I pull in after a session my inlet manifold is cool to touch

The key is the intercooler water sprayer

I'll see if I can dig up some logs without running it, if I can't find any I'll run a session next time with it switched off for comparison.

On the old ECU which couldn't log but could store the max temp value it'd see 12 - 15 degrees above ambient with no intercooler sprayer in place at the track.

The intercooler sprayer has been one of my best bang for buck projects for sure.

Just find a big fuck-off airbox from a factory car, and use that either with a K&N panel filter, or mount a pod filter inside it.

Something like a Falcon or some type of 4WD would be a good starting point.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

    even though he said....

there is crap all room for a standard air box so I'm going to have to make a custom one

It's probably a moot point now, but I thought I's post a photo of how much space there isn't.
