    Default 32/36 weber carby

    I'm about to buy a 32/36 weber and manifold to put on my 18RC, are there any problems I should look out for when doing this? As in hose sizes not matching up etc?

    Also a little while back I replaced my clutch master cylinder as the old ones seals had gone on the plunger but now when I get the car up in revs in any gear it revs higher but has no power. I'm running a RA28 stock. Any ideas?

    ....18rc's have no power in the high rev range....and never will

    the 32/36 is a popular conversion...but I would honestly just have the standard solex tuned and rebuilt....I was dissappointed with my set up and it was a professional jobbie....

    Make sure the manifold you buy has the correct adaptor plate in it...otherise it should be a straight forward operation

    My standard is almost dead so I'm doing this a a starter project...at least this has a choke that works! The no power in high revs isn't just the lack of power from an 18rc, it especially happens when I'm going up hills, I'm thinking worn clutch plate, kinda feels like it isn't gripping properly?

    a very common problem with standard 18rc carby is that the secondaries are vacuum and have a diaphragm over time this diaphragm tears or breaks down and than you only have primarys resulting in loss of top end power, a weber 32/36 has mechanical secondaries and will always work

    the few things you need to do are change the gear thing on the side of the weber to suit your linkage throttle system. the old one off the standard carbie will work fine. you can buy a adaptor plate from most car performance places. the fuel hoses are all the same size and the mechanical fuel pump will work fine with it. the only hard part is if you have a coolant temp choke. rerouthing some small coolant hoses could be diffucult but doable.

    I got the carby, playing around with it (outside the car) it seems that the throttle assembly (bit on the side) doesn't open up the throttle plates all the way when actuated. Also the weber carb has 3 hoses, I know where they go but the stock 18rc carb has 4 or 5 and I have no idea what they are? :s help a newbie out?

    the only vacuum hose you really need is the one that connects to your vacuum advance on your distributor. the others can be blocked off at the carbie.

    as for the linkages... i don't know, need to see them.

    that sounds like your clutch may be slipping as you say it now revs higher, check the free-play on your master cylinder pushrod. It needs to be "loose" and not holding pressure on the master cyl, I'd go with 5mm or more of pedal travel before the master cyl piston moves. This is taken from 70 series landcruiser repair manual but same principal.
