Sorry for bumping up a very old thread but i'm currently making the same adapter, except that mine is 22mm thick vs OP's 20mm. I hope OP (Andrew) will see this. If not, i'm posting this up on C4AG as well for better chance of reply. I will post it here as well when i got the answer there.

My question is on the pilot bearing spacer measurement. Can anyone suggest the values for a, b, c and d? c is of course (b - 8mm). I know the pilot bearing being used is #6001 which is 12mm ID x 28mm OD x 8mm T. Logic tells me that b should be as thick as my adapter minus a few mm which is from the pilot bearing not sitting flat with the crank end.. but how many mm? Also a should be as thin as possible to avoid fouling the flywheel bolts while keeping some meat for strength, but how many mm?

Nice work, but why do it the hard way?

Edit - The easiest way is to just buy a pre-made bell housing.
The way I'm doing is here work very well and is much easier than all the machining above ^.

(Can't add any attachments, stupid forum bullshit won't let me)

I'm fitting a Toyota T50 to the back of a Suzuki G13B for my racing car and what I've done is cut the back off the Suzuki bell housing (so the front just bolts up to the back of the engine) and cut the front off a T50 so it still bolts up to the front of the gearbox. They are cut off at the point where the diameters are pretty close so all I have to do is make a simple circular piece of alloy to weld to each of them. It takes a bit of time on the milling machine to get the heights right but it's pretty easy to do.
To get the alignment right I used a spare block, put a tube where the crank goes (fits perfectly in the bearings) and on the end of it is a larger disc of metal that fits neatly into the input shaft bearing hole of the gearbox.

Not all that difficult to do.

hard way as opposed to what Bill?
as far as i know, there are only two other options on T50-W5x conversion:
    1. buying premade custom bellhousing = too expensive, hard to find decent one
    2. cut and weld combining T50-W5x bellhousing = too many rooms for error

The easiest but simply the most expensive. It's already hard finding a decent one, much less spending nearly double the price on shipping and customs.

Thought about doing this as well.. but those bellhousings are aluminum right? I can't find any decent aluminum welder close to where i live and with the added risk of cracking the bellhousing down the road from a bad weld, i ditched this idea.

Not if you do it the way I wrote. It's very accurate.

A=small enough to fit in the flywheel opening, IIRC i had to make it smaller though as the flywheel crank bolt flanges sat over the hole.
B & C = test fit your setup to determine. The clutch assembly will have an effect as you don't want the disc to contact the pilot bearing.
    D = I think I did 10-12mm.

thanks Andrew.. the bearier carrier extension length should be the same as adapter's thickness, right?
    i will make A = 5mm wall + 28mm OD + 5mm wall = 38mm
    C will be 5mm, hence B will be 5mm + 8mm Bearing Thickness = 13mm
    D will be 10mm
then reduce as necessary.. will inform you guys of the final measurement.

whoops.. B should as thick as the adapter while not fouling the clutch plate. so i'll start with 22mm.

Yep, leave at least 2-2.5mm clearance or MORE for clutch disc wear too when you calculate & check distances.

same process with a bit more details and some minor differences..
