From my recollection if you ignore the SP1 the car will still run sweet.

by ignoring, do you mean just to earth it or not to do anything with it?

I can't recall doing ANYTHING with it... i.e. leaving it disconnected. But my brain is fried... so I can't be certain.

    ....fine....

    try it disconnected first

then earth it and see if the results change (or dont....whatever)

if that doesnt work...do some plugging through electrical diagrams looking for what that pin needs to give the ecu some good 'chi'

I checked my notes (and my 1ggteu engine manual), the input expected is a 5 volt positive square wave. (If I recall correctly at twice the speed of rotation of the speedo cable - I put the scope on it at the time to see if I could use the signal for the cruise control input). The only ecu error message that seems to be related to it is '42' which states:

    Vehicle speed sensor signal:
Signal Informing ECU that the Vehicle speed is 2kph or less and the engine rpm have exceeded 3,000rpm for more than 10 seconds:
recommends that you check1) Vehicle speed sensor. 2) ECU.

I have some concern with the concept of short it to earth and see what happens. It would appear that in this case it would make no difference but not a good policy. Often a little research/thought is the correct action.

Again, if there is no intention to connect the engine check light, as I did, you can ignore the connection - just tape it off.

....in that case Im going to detract my 'see what happens' reccomendation....I would have expected the seosor to simpy earth the connection in and when it was activated, but obvioust theres a resistance which needs adressing...

    +rep for good research

    Gidday

Nothing but advise that the car is on boost. There is a small green light built into the top of the tach that lights up when the car is on boost. From what I have been able to determine there no 'map' sensor (ie hobs switch) but the computer advises that boost has occured. Just another gadget.
