So just how much more fuel would be required?
Well more to the point..... how big would the injectors need to be on my uber-18RGTE, with just under 9:1 comp, and around 30psi, if i were to run E85.
I am giving it serious consideration.

...... butt scratcher?!
Whitzl, rule of thumb is 30%...
I will run e85 as i've heard grea thitngs, but you gotta be careful as it has bad water carrying habits...
Supposedly hate steel tanks and lines and will rust them out quickly..
I'l run it when i have a fuel cell and alloy feed and return lines...

Jase
Yup interwebz rubbish. Have yet to see any evidence of this supposed corrosion effect. Even if it did attract water it would be in solution with the alcohol so effectively no reactive.
You'd get more more water in your tank from simple condesation than from using E85![]()

Hrmmm.. I was told by the tuner and the guys running it, more than just intahwebz... lol

Sigh, its a shame it dissapeared from Adelaide stores
I would have upgraded injectors & pump and used it in the GT4.
It seems some ex-SAFF employee ratted out the company to some Aus gov regulations division that monitors fuel pump calibration.
No fuel pump in Aus has certification to pump E85![]()

So they have been running it for how long? how many fuel tanks have rusted out on them?
Apart from defying common sense, this flys in the face of any workshop comment i have heard. The guys that tuned my car on my alcohol cocktail can't speak highly enough of the stuff and their testing indicates no water adorption issues. The fact that Lotus and even Konigblablabla recommend this for their cars is pretty good testament that the correct setup will have no issues.
It's just alcohol, hardly any nastier than unleaded. Sure if you run Supercheap fuel line you'll have issues (as you do with just normal fuel) but any quality EFI line will cope just fine.
I reckon anyone who doesn't want you to use it either has shares in Shell, or is a competitor who doesn't want you getting the same gains![]()

I obviously cannot answer any of these questions so eat me... lol
But regardless, i'd rather take it as useful advise and look further that disregard it...
Either way, i wanna run a 1/2" feed and a fuel cell. So it makes no difference to me lol

i'm not a chemist but i havent heard of alcohol corroding steel before. it can do some funky shit to certain rubbers and organics though
give them a hangover?
...... butt scratcher?!
the corona runs e85 fuel its got 1100cc injectors on the 7M i believe. cheap but abit of a hike to get it for 99 cents
It's not the alcohol, it's the fact it's hygroscopic (your big word for the day) You need to run the proper type of fuel lines and as long as you're not leaving it sit for months on end, it should be fine.
If anything, a little bit of water is going to further reduce your intake temperatures and allow for MORE boost![]()
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.
Is it also untrue that it will corrode aluminium?
Methanol and alloy aren't a great mix.....i haven't heard of any issues with E85? I've been running meth spirits (ethanol with 3% methanol to make it nasty) in an alloy tank for 5 years now with no sign of any issues so nothing i'm worried about![]()
