i dont wanna get too off topic but:

I see what you mean about autos.. the constant boost thing is great for drag racing.. but i have no interest in drag racing.. beyond having some fun every once in a while..

the thing that bothers me about autos is that they are crap for circuit work.. at the last motorkhana we organised i couldnt keep the car sliding coz the auto would decide to shift.. which also makes the car very unpredictable when hard WOT cornering.. not to mention the absolute lack of throttle response with the kickdown system.. you are mid corner in 3rd gear at half throttle, plant your foot... then nothing.. then suddenly the car feels it should drop to 2nd... bit silly to me...maybe a fully built auto with full manual shift kit would be better.. but then why not just go manual..

i understand why drag racers use em, dont get me wrong.. but for me personally auto has no benefits.

I had looked into using a 2jz auto on a 1jz a little. They are different converters apparently but unsure if you would need a 2jz flex plate. Either way, it bolts up anyway so wouldn't be an issue to swap to one with the 2j auto and converter. One issue is that the modified 2jz converters don't seem to act the same as the 1jz ones.

Also, the majority of the boxes out there are aristo ones with those funky tailshaft output thingy. Unsure if these can be swapped easily?

Tasdude, have you got the ANDRA rulebook? All of the requirements & drawings for rollcage design are in there, give it to a cage-builder and discuss with them the minor differences that you might want, while still staying with the design specs that ANDRA publish.

And don't forget to leave it unpainted for the inspection

I use my A340 for circuit, hillclimb, khana and drag use. Main disadvantage over manual is that it gets the trans fluid hot pretty quickly, limiting how long you can stay on track. Other than that its mostly about re-learning to drive a style that suits the auto (and manual shift capability obviously)
