I think they use lithium grease. If it does need replacing i'd probably go genuine or see what repco has to offer.
hey all,
I think the speedo cable in my hilux is borked, its either that or the dash cluster is fuct.
I get a rattling sound from behind the dash, and the speedo needle whips very lightly, mainly when accelerating.
I have been told I can lubricate the cable, I have removed the dash before (had the issue before this), so what type of lubricant is required?
If I need a new cable or lubricating don't fix it, where best to get a speedo cable in Sydney.
cheers

its common on those hilux's.......ive done a couple...., cable i think is about $100 genuine from toyota.....dont bother trying to lubricate it...they are generally starting to fray....causing the flickering
hardest part is getting the cable off the clip thats on top of the gbox bellhousing..besides that its a piece of piss.
Will get my mates mates to get me a price on a speedo cable. He gets cheap genuine Toyota Parts. Will then decide whether or not to tackle the job myself.
Another mate thinks it could be noise from within the dash cluster? Yes/No .... Thoughts?
I still reckon cable. Will keep you posted.
cheers
