    Default 1jz vvti upgrades

hey guys been looking around for a top mount mani for the vvti 1j but can only seem to find 6boost ones and was not looking at spending this kind of money as its just the bunky, is there any cheaper options for manifolds or turbo upgrandes as have been told the stock turbo is not up to much so would like to get something better and get over over the 300rwhp mark or closer to it

    any ideas/suggestions = sic'

    thanks guys

The stock turbo should do 220-230rwkw which is over your 300rwhp target.

Other than that its a custom mani and a GT3076r, but thats going to set you back 4K+ by the time its on the car.

Are these workshops that think they will be doing the work? Or think you will be buying parts of them?...

Stock turbo will do it no dramas, its the guy thats putting the numbers in the ECU that might have difficulties

Mats VVTi 1jz Ma61 cracked out 22#rwkw's without a hard time and im pretty sure it was done on around 16psi.

Tuning the VVTi is the hard bit (but is made alot easier if you use an AFM)

    Cheers

I couldn't find Mats graphs but i found another in the JZ dyno results thread that is doing 198kw on 12psi, so im pretty sure Mats would have been on 16psi.

16psi should be reliable as, if you went over 20psi id start to worry though.

I wouldn't have cams on the list of things to buy if your only chasing 300hp, it would be a fairly large waste of money that would be better off being put towards a decent size GT series turbo.

Cant see any reason why the stock turbs wont do 16psi happily, providing its in good nick from the get go, is should be as reliable as any other turbo running moderate boost. Plenty of twin turbo 1j's out there running that sort of boost for fair amounts of time.

Any reason you cant mod the existing manifold and run a low mount GT series?
Ive welded t3 flanges straight onto casting before, and it worked a treat, probs not the best for flow but as you said its the bunky

EDIT: Just realised who this is, Ben i still need that sillycoon for the 31, I will call you tomorrow
EDITEDIT: O, and now i know its you Autobahn88 sell the VVTi mani's dude, you could always get them to send a 'sample' over

    Hi,

My VVTi 1J outputs exactly that rwhp figure at 13psi, ebay fmic, fabbed by me 3 inch exhaust, no safc and just the standard ecu.

Maybe hunt around for some more qualified opinions.

KAMAKAZ, is the car a auto or Manual, my old Manual 1J non vvti Corona put out 199 rwkw at 10.5 psi boost, 3" exhaust & cutom front mount .. I would imagine the vvti should do similar specs at similar boost levels ..

The auto would put out a few less horses but is usually slightly quicker over the 1/4 mile (based on a list of times I have read)
