It's not moving when you power the magnet up? Is it stuck on the engaged, or disengaged position?
-RM.
Well I powered up the electro magnetic clutch on my SC12 for the first time last night with a spectacular result of... Nothing. I pulled the whole clutch mechanism off and tested again and the magnet is working when powered.
Sooooo. Would the SC12 be stuffed or does the spline get stuck? Is there anyway to check if it's stuck? (Will try and get pics if that helps)
Thanks
Inv.
EDIT: I posed this question later in the thread but thought I might add it to the original in case anyone new is reading the thread:
Wthe magnet is on how does the clutch engage?
Based on the diagram of an SC (http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...highlight=sc12)
does the part 17068 slide down the spline? If so how does it return when the magnet is switched off, I don't see any spring to push it back. Or does something else happen? Confused now...

Disengaged... Not moving when the magnet is powered up and I can't force it to engage manually. Can spin the spline though to make the internal lobes to move.

Got a welder?
How have you wired it up? I've forgotten now, but I have a feeling there was a trick to the wiring, and also that it needed a pretty reasonable current...
-RM.
No don't have a welder... Why?![]()
Tested the clutch by connecting it directly to a battery.

If it's easy to get to, I'd pull it apart and make sure all the parts move freely. I'm not sure if it's as simple as connecting it to 12v, maybe someone has a wiring diagram of the factory system.
-RM.
Hmmm, The SC is off the car at the moment so it's easily accessible.
Do you mean pull the SC apart or the clutch?
I might take this opportunity to pose a related question, when the magnet is on how does the clutch engage?

For the love of god, don't pull the SC apartJust the clutch mechanism, a rattle gun will help you here.
As it mentions lower in that post, "A current through the coil makes a magnetic field which pulls the front plate (17068 in above picture) against the face of the pulley (17067). The front plate is splined onto the lower supercharger lobe."
(thanks Hen)
-RM.
I pulled it apart, and everything seems fine plate can slide freely on the spline (the clutch wasn't originally on the SC, I purchased it second hand). From what I can tell, the plate 17068 is at it's lowest point on the spline, yet there is still a 5-8mm gap between the pulley and the plate. Is there a different spline length in SC12s. I only ask as my SC12 had different mounting points to the one illustrated in the picture, and it wouldn't surprise that I have the one black sheep SC12.

Maybe you have an SC14. AFAIK, all SC12s have mounts as shown in the linked thread.
The top mounts on an SC14 are rotated through 90 degrees so they are on the same axis (you can slide a single bolt through both top mounts).
Unfortunately I have little experience with the stranger models these SCs came off, so the above may have some exceptions.
Hen
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
You sure it's not an SC14 by any chance? I know that there are incompatibilities in swapping pulleys between SC12 and SC14 chargers.
What's the length of the charger?
Alternatively, The Pulley Bros have a few pulleys to select from of various sizes, both clutched and unclutched.
Not including the spline the body of the SC is about 24cm long.
Including spline 31cm long
The top mounts were definitely how you describe them Hen. They've been ground off to make it fit on my engine though. Looked like the bottom SC in this photo
Will try and get some photos up shortly.

Looks like an SC14, they have the longer splines.
You'll need an SC14 pulley, or (preferably) an aftermarket one.
