    Default Corona Mods?

    Hey guys,

Looking at getting another toyota run about.

Was down at the wreckers last week and am considering an XT130 wagon.

Just wondering if there are any good budget mods that can be done to them?

Im a corolla guy so yea, corona n00b.

Hmmm, had enough of choppies in my last car. and i work at a spring makers

i'll refine the question a bit more, any cheap "performance" mods? Just something to get it moving a little quicker. Im not ruling out and engine swap down the track.

    Thanks mate.

Might be a long shot but would there be anyway to get a 3/5S in there using crossmembers out of other *T13* chassis'

Fit a red six. Bolts into XT130 if you fit a thermo in front of the radiator.

    Any 18RG, 22RE or 1G will fit with RT132/RT133 cross-member.

I'd personally go for the Blue 6. Balanced crank and better head design. But thats what i got in my ute.

Hmmm, 22r could be a good swap. Although, 1G is tempting.

    Keep em coming guys.

18R/RG bolts straight in no mods to crossmember at all.

This is my kind of thread.

    Engine:

With relative ease, you could do -
    18R-C
    18R-G
    22R-C
Or any R-block for that matter, but these are the 3 you'd bother with.

Holden 6 with some mods, although you'll understeer more due to the huge amount of weight over the front suspension.

    Gearbox:
Depends on which motor you put in.
With any variant of an 18-R, a W50 should be used, and a RT132 gearbox crossmember will make it all fit.

22RC, you should really use a W55 / W57 / W58 gearbox. I THINK these have a G5x gearbox behind them standard, don't quote me on that though. Possible require a custom gearbox crossmember to make it work.

    Brakes:
Corona strut / Pug rotor / Hilux Caliper is simple enough
Celica Rotor / Cressida Caliper is even easier
You could switch to AE86 Struts and to the RX-7 / Civic rotor upgrade also.

    Suspension:
You can switch the struts with most other period toyotas, but i wouldn't bother. RA65 would be worth it just for the brakes, but you may run into problems with the steering arms.

Shocks are fairly easy to find through a few suppliers, anything that fits an AE86 strut will fit an XT130 strut. Rear suspension is a very close match too.

Springs will be custom. But that's not too hard to get sorted anyway. Whiteline do swaybars for them. Bushes are mostly the same as AE86 and most other period toyotas.

Long post short - Ditch the starfire. NOW.

Yea, the starfire doesn't even have a good rep from the holden crew.

Ive heard that the 22r's from the hiluxes are better than the ones out of the coronas.

Would i be able to use a bellhousing from an 18r, bolt it to the 22r and use a W series box?

I have a 3T-GTE in my RT132, small crossmember work and passed regency. The engine fits in there perfect if that helps. From what i know, the engine bays are pretty much the same, just crossmembers.

22r shouldnt have to go thru regency as its under the limit and im sure it wouldnt make that much more power than the starfire that rego would care.

**checked before posting** the 22r JUST meets SA's conversion limit.

Basing the calcs that the Starfire is exactly 1900cc and the rego law says you can go up 25% in capacity without engineering.

After doing the calcs it comes up with 2375(cc) and the 22r comes in at 2366cc

SO, if i can sell my ke30 and find an XT130 wagon it will get a 22r sometime down the track. But how far down said track it will be is anyones guess

Not quite. W-50 bellhousings are not the same as W55/57/58 bellhousings. They are not interchangable.

If you were using a Hilux 22R-C, then you should use a W55 from an RT142 corona.
