I was referring to a vehicle being parked including being parked on a hill or slope. Even I’m guilty of sometimes forgetting to put the vehicle in gear or the auto in park.

There have been a number of accidents where everyone regretted it after it happened and the cause for some reason then becomes so obvious. I had to investigate some of them.

In addition, there have been plenty of accidents where persons have been run over by their own car. They might park it on the driveway and it rolls forward while they are unlocking the gate or garage door. Some don’t die instantly and become pinned there. Others are there long enough that the blood circulation is cut off to their legs and they have to have them amputated.

(P.S. The other Pete seems on the ball although we are two different people.)

I will unfortunately admit to having previously owned a datsun 1600 with a hydraulic handbrake only. I bought it like that, and had no idea that one night at a mate's house after I parked it on a slope, that later I would find it down the end of the street at a T junction nestled up against a light pole. Very fortunate the pole was there or it would have gone through the front of the house behind it.

    SWEEEEET! Simple.

A hydraulic lock that uses the line pressure of the system to hold your brakes locked, no electrical or special linkage required. Just step on the foot brake , push the Park-Lok down, let off the foot brake, and it's locked. Step on the foot brake again, and it opens automatically. Holds any vehicle with hydraulic brakes where you put it.

    For what use?
Great for burnouts, etc... still not good enough for use as a handbrake.
