yes - mechanical and vacuum.
hey guys, just a quick question.
does a 5m-e distributor from a mx73 cresside or same model chaser, does it have mechanical advance?
cheers
yes - mechanical and vacuum.
hmm, well thats a good thing
but my distributor has no vaccumm on it
and i know its a 5me coz i went thru the picture book at autobarn to find the right dizzy cap. and its a 5me one
could they have removed the vac advance when they made it fit the 1ggte?
cheers mate
You sure it's not a 5mge dizzi? open it up - got mechanical advance? can you rotate the rotor? a 5mge dizzi is locked and wont rotate unless the motor is turning.
how do i tell if its got mech advance just by looking?
im pretty sure its locked when you try to turn the rotor button
dont forget it has a 1ggte modified shaft on it
you tell by looking for weights and springs and the fact that the rotor can be turned while the motor is stationeryOriginally Posted by love ke70
go find an older car that has older dizzi and have a gawk.
ask for "dizzi rebuilding" at one of the places listed above?dont forget it has a 1ggte modified shaft on it
the fact that it's probably from a 5mge means it was destined to be controlled by an ECU not by some complicated mechanical/pnuematic setup. You should reconsider your approach?
I'd agree mate.. Don't push on with this dizzy...
send the dizzy away to somewhere and get them to build you the right one.
If you get real desperate post a pic of the dizzy up so we can see what you have there.
Obviously you are running aftermarket injection so what ecu are you using >? The 1GGTE has a rather unique trigger from the Dizzy thats upsets most entry level ecu's and tuners![]()

ill get pics now
its on lpg carby
might have a gawk at the 4k. im assuming that would have mech advance
i might look at a different approach. this did work for someone at some stage tho. just dont know how well it was working
cheers guys, pics in a jiffy
pics
the last two were taken a while back, before the dizzy had been put in properly which is why its out of place![]()
i double checked. you cannot turn the rotor button. so it would appear it doesnt even have mechanical advance
maybe that ignition only ecu i put up in a different thread is the way to go?
Thats news to me, perhaps you'd better define what entry level you're talking about, because there is no problems whatsoever when using a Microtech...nor have I heard of any trickery other than the usual problems people have with Toyota stuff and Wolf ECU's etc.Originally Posted by TheToyman75

It does have fucked up sensors.Originally Posted by JustCallMeFrank
It only works with some ECU's.
Only half worked with the Haltech and that was with a whole host of helpers along the way (amplifiers and what not).
I had to have a reluctor adaptor with all the amplification turned right the way up and the signal was still not strong enough to work properly. The trigger's inside the dizzy are proper fucked up. Your much better off replacing the THREE magnetic sensors with 1 six tooth hall effect switch.
Isn't that common to all Toyota reluctor triggers though?
