    Hi,

You can try Frank Kleinig Motors at Girraween. He's an artist when it comes to Solex carbs. When he did mine it was like a new engine.

As good as carbs can allegedly be when tuned properly, there's no way a pair of sidedraughts are going to come close to closed-loop EFI when we're talking fuel economy. If you want a no-fuss well-behaved engine that uses not much fuel, EFI is the way to go - although it kind of depends on the cost and availability of the required hardware.

i think everyone overlooked stradlaters post.
LPG is the way to go. get a GRA carby, get the lpg system installed, and whack a turbo on. then get it tuned. lpg carby turbos are easy peasy really.

Last i heard "cranky-Frank" had retired.....

And river.... until you drive an EFI 18R-G, you just dont understand how much better it really is.

... as for finding the required hardware - well that all comes down to how vigilant you want to be in your searches. If you are vigilant enough to keep searching and hunting and looking in every corner of the internet, on message boards, in the trading post, in the back corner of every import and local wrecker you go past.... then eventually you will find them.

If that's all too hard to do, then i suggest buying a 1G-GE (non-turbo) and fitting that instead.

... old engines like an 18R-G are really only for those who are 100% prepared to work on them almost constantly - unless you are like river and baby it everywhere
    ...... butt scratcher?!

well i dont think i would have that much time to search the net in every corner and in every message board. but if i was going to do the 1g conversion it would definetly have to go 1ggte as i dont see an up side of having a non-turbo unless it is a rotary

    Hi,

Cranky Franky has retired?!?... now that's a bummer. Well, there's a blow for the old school carby mob.

I don't baby my engine.... I look after it and treat it nice. That's how my car's been on the road for 33 years.. same engine... same gearbox.. same diff.. even the same body panels... same shockies.. same dashboard... same seats... same steering wheel... basically the same everything except the wheels

PS: Did you know I now have a set of original GT rims for the car? I've got to get them spruced up, like I had to with the current GTS wheels, and then I'll come around to your place Witzybabes and show them off to you!!

haha at the shocks calls, I'm not too worried about mine, they seem safe enough but i just try to avoid speed bumps.

Retuning your Carbs will be the cheapest option, 1ggte will probably be the best value for money option...

    Hi,

Yeah, same here with the shockies. They were checked about a year ago when the new steering idlers & pitman were being put in and the shocks are not leaking and are within specs.

I've been playing with turbo 18rg's for about five years now if your still intersted in doing a draw through turbo go for it but there are so many other options if your only after a small gain in horse power why not try a blow through setup on the twin carbies.

H.K.S used to make an after market kit which used the orginal carbies it's not really that hard just remember to but boost pressure the fule bowl and make sure you have more fuel pressure than boost pressure.

If your leaning towards Efi now which the best way of controlling inginition and fuel. I first used the orginal EFI setup with a new fuel rail which cost me about $500 so I could use a more common sort of injector and I had no problems producing 300bhp.

Or there is the other option use the orginal carbie maniflod and get quad throttle bodies but the only problem now it's getting expensive plus your engine would start to look like mine.

You for a computer the 4age has the same configuration as 18rg so it will run an rg an just add a piggy back computer to tuning.

    Thanks
    Alex
