solid indicates non-collapsible.
1JZrollas thread? (edit: he said "Custom solid pinion spacer (OEM crush tube can't handle the torque or shockloads)")

Correct I am after a solid pinion spacer, i.e not like the OEM crush tube.
Along the lines of what marlin crawler sell but in Aus: http://www.marlincrawler.com/differe...ion-spacer-kit
I believe the issue with the crush tube is under high loads, due to the geometric shape of the pinion and ring gear, an axial compression load is generated on the crush tube. If this axial load is larger than the bearing preload, further plastic deformation of the crush tube will occur, and the preload on the pinion bearing will drop off.
This will cause improper mesh of the pinion and ring which could lead to premature failure of the meshing gears.

Why not use an OEM solid spacer?
Jealousy is a curse
You mean crush tube?
I need to replace a pinion bearing in my differential hence crush tube/solid spacer. The crush tube in my eyes is a manufacturing compromise not necessarily the 'best' option. it is much more economical to mass manufacture these differentials with a crush tube due to stacked tolerances in the the differential.
If you mean OEM solid spacer please tell me more.
i was under the impression that most g series diffs had a solid spacer standard and that is one of the reasons they are so strong. it's only f series diffs that i've heard of flogging out crush tubes under heavy drag take-off loads
Well after reading through the TSRM (toyota supra repair manual) there is reference to a crush tube, this would suggest it is not a solid spacer.
edit: oh.. 1J was talking about the F..![]()

and..........................custom solid pinion spacer for an f series diff? I'm not following you oldcorollas.
i thought 1JZrolla was talking about G series diffs when he mentioned the "custom" solid spacer, but he was talking about F series, and you are asking about G series...
my bad.
still, you could ask him who machined it up...

Yeah fair point.
Thanks again
a picture of G series spacers
The solid came from a hilux the crushable from an IRS diff

yeah okay, forgot that it was most g series live axles that have the solid spacer.....coz irs is for gays![]()
Get solid axle spacer from Toyota and get machined down to fit? Or will outer diameter difference cause issues?
