take off timing cover and see if it looks new or old.
So I have had the caldina for a few weeks now, and when I imported it the car had 103,000km's on it.
Now the question is, what is the likely-hood that the timing belt was changed? As i'm guessing the 3sgte need it done every 100,000km (new to Toyotas so i'm not sure).
I cant see a sticker in the engine bay anywhere, but I guess that isn't a definite way to tell anyways.
So is my best option just to replace it? I do know these engines are non-interference. And if I do, what is the best place to source belts for a gen 4 3sgte?
Also while i'm at it, is there anything else that should be done?
Any help is appreciated

Have a look through some of our reader's ride threads.
"The Last Streetfighter" just had 100k service done on his.
How's your clutch feel? Apparently the service means an engine out, so it's prob worthwhile doing at the same time.
Try Toyota for prices. Sometimes you can get a nice surprise.![]()
Really need to start a Caldina dedicated thread. Too much random info floating around in reader's threads.
Sorry to go off topic:
If I get one started, OC, you got time to try to copy some of the info you've gathered as posted around?
Ok cheers ill have a look at his.
Clutch feels really good, like it has been replaced. it fairly heavy, and engages mid-way through the stroke.
Would be good to have a dedicated caldina thread, most info I find on here is in members rides, along with the toyspeed.org.nz website.. but that is also fairly limited. So I'd definitely be keen to help with the input.
no, but you can copy and paste.Originally Posted by wagonist

IME the Japs usually put the sticker on the TBelt cover wiht the date changed (in Jap format)
You don't have to take the engine out to change the clutch, But I reckon it's easier to do that way.
If you tink the TB hasn't been done you should check the tensioners, seals and waterpump too as they are all indicated at 100k km.
See my ride thread.

these are the stickers that were on my car, checked the other belts and they look quite new, obviously a bit hard to tell as the top on the belt with the writing on it runs on a roller so the writing is worn off..
inside the door on the side of the dash:
on the rad support:
on the air filter:
on the timing belt cover (guessing oem reminder sticker):

P/S? year Heisei 19(2007)-August, 115000km maybe that is the reminder for next change for oil... since you got the car before that km's.. or you got a wound back car.
second one,
oil and oil filter were done at 104000 (but you got the car at 103? weird..) the date part of the orange crap might get torn off when the change is done.
lower two, engine flush? oil change? at 53Kkm...
i hope it had oil between those times...![]()
purple one.
toyota long life coolant. good until heisei 23(2011), feb.
next, air filter changed at 70962km
last is reminder sticker.
looks like it may not have been serviced often, or rarely at toyota (who are really cheap here... heck i get free oil changes every 2000-3000km...)

yeh, there were quite a few stickers on the inside of the windscreen (can see the outlines from them) and a few more have been removed from on the door jamb in compliance I believe for the tyre placard to fit there.. hopefully that explains a few things. do they usually leave a service sticker on everytime it is done, or is it like here in aust where after the new service the old sticker is removed?
depends on the dealer or shonky backyard mechanic
up here, Toyota doesn't do stickers for oil change.. is in the service handbook thing

yeh thats fair. nothing wrong with backyard mechanics
ill be doing my timing belt change once I source one (along with the water pump/seals/tensioner), as well as oil/oil filter/plugs etc. no point paying someone when you an do it yourself.
