I'm happy to replace the caps for a nominal reimbursement if you want.
I've got the parts here waiting to be used, PM if you're interested.
Have you checked the ecus capacitors? Seem to be an issue on the older Toyotas. There is a guide on here on how to change them.
I had a 4agze that had similar problems, mine would get worse with heat, on cold mornings it behaved. I retired it before I got a chance to fix it unfortunately. Good luck with yours
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

I have never heard of this before ? is it common fault ? Also wouldnt it effect it all the time not just every know and then ?
cheers boys

mm ill try the afm first.. Only problem is i cant check diagnostic codes as my ae86 adm cluster doesnt have a check engine light for me to check codes :S
i ran a atmo bov with no dramas to how it ran at all.Originally Posted by reece12
i still fail to see how the afm has anything to do with the turbo spooling and producing boost.Did some more testing .. Car boost fine 7/10 times i thrash it and then airflow seems to just stop and it feels like the turbo stops sucking air. Therefore all power is gone whilst accellerating.. Any ideas i am leaning towards AFM still
i would look up a wiring diagram and wire in a CEL so you can check the ecu for codes, wouldnt hurt to check the TPS and see if that's all to specs.
i've seen the problem c2888 mentioned on other forums.
update.. I picked up another AFM put it on and walla car run fine , no more shitty idle, hunting or stalling.. Noticed a big difference between the two AFM's the flap on mine wouldnt close 100% but the new one did.. Seems the AFM cannot handle excess amounts of boost on the AFM spring.
The boost problem is something else.. it also happened with new AFM, what happens is the car rev's and boosts fine for abit then, all of a sudden car wont accellerate under boost.
ill take my actuator off tonight to see if its the turbo
BS mate, i ran 18psi with the TC and afm, and currently 17psi with afm.Originally Posted by reece12
glad to hear you've got one problem sorted with replaceing the afm, must of been dickie, but it wasnt caused by 'excess amounts of boost through it'. you have only had air flow through it anyways, not boost.
well this one didnt like it.. Took the boost off.. Car drives and rev's fine.. It seems to be happening when car comes on boost or when more fuel/spark is needed.. Feral i dont know the condition of this AFM it could have been tampered with.. It there a possiblity by doing that could F@$k my motor up untill i get the a/f mixtures checked..
cheers matey
