    Question AW11 Leaking Fuel Problem

    Hey guys,
My AW11 has always had this problem but I'm starting to think about a respray so I would like to get it fixed, basically somewhere along the fuel neck > fuel cap there is a leak that is leaving some really nasty streaks down the side of my car:

Being an import I'm told they actually had to change something about the fuel filler neck and cap to match Aussie pumps, they have definitely changed the cap to one off a Ford and I had a look at the neck and couldn't see anything, basically I'm just after some opinions of what could be causing it or even maybe someone can see something I missed.
    Cheers

    Hey JBs,
This used to happen on Torra a bit parked on a hill with a full tank. From what I understand, wiso put a thicko rubber o-ring in the cap and it seemed to work well. Maybe if you restore the rubber seat that the cap sits on, that might tighten up the seal as well. Even if you have to ghetto it a bit, if you can make it seal nice and tight when you screw the cap down, it won't leak any more (that's provided it's leaking out from underneath the cap).

It will definitely be the first thing I try, you don't know where exactly it was that they cut the neck to replace it do you? I had a look but couldn't see anything obvious.
    Cheers

Btw have to spread some love.

I don't know if this is your problem but I had the breather on my fuel tank blocked and on a hot day with a full tank the fuel would get pushed out the filler and down the side of the car. I changed the breather hoses and charcoal canister and that fixed the problem.

Gee I wonder why this person has -ve rep

Back on topic, it doesn't look like there is a join in the filler neck that high up, so it would have to be the cap leaking. Either from a faulty cap or as RobertoX said, blocked breathers (good idea, I hadn't thought of that).

my import still has the original brass (i think) twist on lid. Tha locks into place with a 3 quarter turn. It seems that the new ford one isnt sealing the old school neck. Perhaps there is a half a mm gap somewhere or maybe it is that seal that needs replacing.

One of the owners with a wreck might be able to source you an original cap.

from the look of it it hasnt been cut and shut. it looks more like its had the restrictor pressed and skiaflexed in place. My thought would be either remove said restrictor and just go for the old fashioned super filler neck. ( bit of a moot point given the lack of ledaded fuel)

or remove it then reseal it back into place. Ive got a spare neck sitting around here but the issue is that i dont thinkits actaully possible to remove with the gearbox still in place.. or i certainly couldnt get it out. i had to cut it then remove in two pieces then reseal.

Ok so is that literally just the top bit on the outside ie what the cap screws into?
    Cheers
