How about a wet and dry compression test, do a dry test first, then if you add oil and the compression raises, that would give you a clue if it's the rings or not.
My 2jz has had the usual jz valve stem seal problem since i got it. It would blow a small amount of blue/oil smoke on cold start up. But now it seems to puff very small amounts through out the rev rage, especially when you back off the throttle. I'm concered it could be the rings. Can't be the turbo cos it's only done about 1000km's.
Anyone here experianced similar amounts of smoke from a jz motor? Whats the best way to test if the rings are buggered?

My thoughts. You know they are average anyway so replace them and see if problem persists

Cheers for the help guys. I'll be replacing the stem seals soon, along with cams and valve springs.
