    Default Engine for KE

    Hey guys,

I've been trying to find a nice torquey engine to fit into the engine bay of an un suspecting KE.Something thats usually cheap and is plentiful. Hopefully after something that will rip a skid without breaking a sweat, tough from stock and are cheap to fix if something decides it doesnt wanna play ball.

1st the idea was to go for a 7M due to a mate wanting to get rid of one cheap
2nd was a 3VZ since they make about 200hp and are commonly found in camrys.
3rd was a 22r as i thought it would be plenty torquey to rip a decent skid in a KE.

Still on the idea of the 22R since its still a 4cyl. Also trying to steer away from forced induction on this one.

well.. onyl 22R is close to being legal so.....

or is this for offstreet burnout car?

22R = kinda torquey.. but.. not really.

7MG? boat anchor poo? and prolly won't fit.

VZ or MZ(?) are logical choice but with the FWD to RWD thing... how hard can it be?

Off street. Might get the odd punt around the block, but not looking at getting it legalised at all. And i dont mind a bit of fab work (firewall recess/ trans tunnel etc) but not over the top

3VZ has been done RWD before, Gianttomato was making adaptor rings to mate them to R-W series bellhousings. Still awaiting reply from Gianttomato regardign these.

torque for skids, 3VZ has 277 stock, 7M has 250-265...

    seems easy choice

    above the bonnet??

    it will certainly attract attention
    mm tunnel rammed camry motor

good exhaust and intake will wake it up. carbs will be ok for skids (still need to control ignition or leave ECU there if ti is MAP??) and will be expendable....

if you get realyl adventurous, get some cams welded and ground (since it is just a shitter)

edit, heck an eaton M90 would be ok also

well in true street machining style, yes, above the bonnet. Just some simple steel runners bolted to the intake ports, with just enough length to chuck an bend in to bring the top of the runners straight up and down, flange em and slap a carb on top.

Would have to find some way to run the ignition off some sort of dizzy style setup.

Yea, will be getting my regular exhaust shop to do the exhaust, twin 2 inch system maybe.

i think 200hp at the fly should be enough in a ke38 to satisfy me.

Wont be a total shitter, will have a decent paint job and real steel flares. so it wont look like a bush basher thats just been slapped together. More info in my ME38 thread ( will have to change that)

Greenmac's still keepin the 22R idea alive. Any decent yet cheap mods that are able to be done to make it perform a bit better?

If you chose to get a 3VZ, Parts avaliability depends on which 3vz you get. If your getting a 3VZ-FE, parts are harder to find as most of the parts from the 3vz-e are not interchangeable.

Bottom ends are strong and can handle quite a bit of power.

There are way more 3VZ-FE's around that 3VZ-E's. Every V6 Camry for a fair few years. Parts are easy to get.

Plus 3VZ-E's are pieces of shit.
