Hey Everybody, just a quick question. What is a Hall Effects sensor and how would you install one?
Thanks

what ecu are you running ?
if your running a standard ecu, you will need to find something to convert the halleffect signal to the standard system.
you mount the sensor anywhere that can determine engine speed (crank, flywheel, cams..etc). then you make a disc up to mount some magnet's in (so the senor can read something). and hey presto.

i dont have a funny or cool signature.
I have a feeling that Mitsu's often use hall effect sensors and I've heard of people succesfully fitting them in other dissy housings. As fixer suggested, check your ecu first as most aftermarket will be able to utilise hall/optical/vr, one of which should be fitted to your vehicle originally.

Thanks for the info. Sorry I probably should have put a bit of background info up. I'm currently adding a Haltech E8 to my 2TGEU, so unfortunately it didn't come from the factory with a Hall Effects Sensor.
Although, the 2TGEU did come with factory electronic dizzy. Would this contain a Hall sensor or a reluctor type sensor?

toyota likes to use reluctors
perhaps a reluctor, connected to a zero crossing detector, would give the output of a hall sensor?

Correct OC. That will produce a square wave signal. You can probably find the schematics to build one from www.megamanual.com or www.msefi.com or ask thechuckster. Otherwise have a look at the schematics for the MS2 v3.0 as it's built into the main board.
So I'm guessing that Haltech's need a square wave as input.
Another thing to look at would be a 4age ignitor. Have a look at the VAST & ESA setups on www.autoshop101.com (PDF 96?). I think one of them takes the dissy signal and onditions it to a square wave which it then feeds to the ECU.

some Camira/bosch ignitors have similar thing built in.. to shape the reluctor for the ECU, and then accept a trigger back... (iirc)

thats what the E8 can do, so you can buy the halleffect sensor and magnets from haltech and wire it up. all you will have to do it tell the ecu what type of sensor your using and make the plate for the magnets and plonk it on your crank pulley (if you choose to use the crank pulley). there's a bit more to it but we will cross that bridge when we get there.
also haltech sell a wave converter to convert the reluctor type pulse to a halleffect reading (but i didnt have much luck with it (so i have one for sale))
if i were you id just go straight to the halleffect sensor and magnets, why use other stuff when the proper sensors for it are out there.
are you expeiriencing a miss at mid to top revs or hard to start ?

If the E8 will accept Inductive Magnetic Reluctor as a trigger signal type, and either single pulse or multi-tooth, then you should be able to run it straight from the standard dissy without the need to change to hall effect.
If you've got it set this way and are missing check that the polarity of the wiring is correct and that the E8 is reading the right edge of the signal (falling or rising).

I know on some 4AGs with E6s you have to modify the distributor to get decent timing. They work perfectly after that.
Strange things are afoot at the circle K
Awesome! Thanks for all the help.
According to the Haltech manual, an E8 will accept a reluctor signal, so (fingers crossed) I should be able to wire the dizzy up directly to the ECU.
