Default 2TG Carby spacer plate thing???

    hi,

have a 2tg going into a T18 at the moment...doing the ke70 crossmember conversion thing for rack and pinion...this also moves the motor back about 20mm odd...

and thats where this problem has come up...

the back carby wont fit into the gap...it fouls on the brake booster something fierce...had to remove the carby to mount the motor in...and i wont be able to shoe-horn the carby back on

    now my question is this...

do i need to keep the spacer plate thing that sits between the carby's and the manifold?

it appears to have a tunnel'd section going between the two inlets of each carby...linking them i guess?

can i just remove this spacer plate?

    any help appreciated

    cheers

ps. its a 2TG efi motor that has been converted to run the std 40mm mikuni side drafts

Cut the mounts off the T18 crossmember and mount them on the KE70 crossmember, otherwise you will need to mess with the gearbox mount and driveshaft length. Put the bare KE70 crossmember in, drop in the motor and box and bolt up gearbox crossmember, this will ensure everything is lined up. Bolt up the T18 crossmember mounts and tack into place with the engine sitting right, then pull it all out and weld it up properly. The gearbox brace needs to come out (think its only the drivers side) otherwise it won't clear the rack.

hmm...that sounds like what i might need to do...

can i just cut the rack tabs off a ke70 crossmember and weld them onto the T18 crossmember?

    cheers

Haven't done it myself but should be possible, Try looking around www.toycrazy.net, Mark has played around with this stuff a lot.

The spacer blocks are there as a heat shield. They can be removed but will then allow quite a bit of heat to build up, transfering from the head along the manifold into the carbs. Hot enough to play havoc with the fuel.
I ran my 2T early on without the spacers and the carb bodies would get to about 60 degrees and uncomfortable to touch.

To loose a bit of length you could use softmounts. You loose about 8mm length with these, over spacer blocks.

I would however try to retain as much intake length as possible as 2T-Gs need as much help as possible to get good torque, especially with anything stock.
