this is usually the case, you're using a front sump aren't you? I'll be doing this conversion more than once in the coming weeks, i'll show you mine once its doneOriginally Posted by mick08
Ok who out there in ToyMod land has mounted a 1uz into a 2wd hilux? and who's mounts did you use? I have an extacab 93mod RN90 and having trouble with bought mounts, are the extracab engine bays different to other hilux's? cause mine seems to foul the draglink on the steering and looks awfully close to the brake booster;by that i mean if engine was lifted to clear the draglink it would hit the booster, what have others done?

I made my own mounts for my 98 hilux single cab and i mounted the motor back as far as it would go against the fire wall.if your using the front sump you will need to cut a couple of inches out of the back of the sump.i ended up making a new steel section and modifying the pickup.on the back of my booster there was an aluminium spacer which spaces the booster off the fire wall which i shortened and i also noched the corner of the tappet cover for clearence.its all a pretty tight fit.if you dont go far enough back you will run into trouble with clearence for fans.
cheers, Alan.
Hey Allan, just read your post again, when you made the alloy spacer behind the booster thinner, did you shorten the length of the rod that comes out of the booster and onto the pedal? Did you make the spacer about 10mm thick? I'm still havin troubles with this conversion.
The spacer was about 10mm thick and I think i did have to cut a bit off the booster rod but there was just enough thread to get the pedal where i wanted it.
Cheers, Alan.
what is the diameter of the booster?
Jealousy is a curse
Its approx 240mm, I heard about people using the diesel one too but don't the diesel ones work off a pump on the back of the alternator, will it be smaller volume as i want the brakes to be as good as possible, i've done the upgrade to R34 calipers and BA rotors.
they do get thier vacuum from the pump on the alternator, because diesel engines don't create vacuum in the manifold. diameter of my diesel booster is about 220mm. Mick08, have you relocated your handbrake pulley yet?
220mm might just give me the clearance i need,is anyone else using the diesel one that has pics,is it a different shape to mine, and yes i have relocated the parkbrake pulley to the later 4wd version that has the pulley mechanism on the inside, almost a bolt up fit except for those bloody plastic things holdin the footrest on.
Mine is about 220 diameter I forget what it is out of, a Toyota 4wd of some sort. It is a double diaphram job so has plenty of boost

Hey Madmont does your hilux have the alloy spacer behind the booster? Is that a later model mastercylinder,it looks like mine.
Master cylinder is off a later model 4wd the spacer if any is much thinner than the original RN46 one. The booster fits almost hard up against the seam behind in the bodywork

i used the crs ones (4wd but in a 2wd chassis) front sump but had to notch it to clear the steering cleared everything else easily and i am using a z125 oil filter but had to grind down the crush tube that mounts the idler arm flush with the rail (have a look you will see what i mean). weren't cheap though. i used the cae extractors but had to modify them fairly well - they told me they fit a surf with a minor clearance dint to clear the steering shaft.

thanx for replying but i didn't get the pics, how much did yours clear the bolt heads on the steel bowl section by, My CRS mounts(2wd) fouled on the alloy sump let alone the steel bowl,i did have some luck with them refunding the purchase price only, not postage or time wasted or the other two times i had to send the trans mount back for them to get right, they had the trans about an inch off centre with no good reason why, they've done their dash with me,bring back Rod Hadfield i say!
cleared the bolts for the steel part by a good inch. i used their alloy bellhousing to suit a w series box and used the w box in my hilux allready. so i didn't need to move the gearbox at all. beats making driveshafts to suit.
