buy mine, 8k as is with 1jz making 280rwkw.
actually what shape are you talking about? 5# series chassis with 6# series body or the later shape?
As above,
How possible? I'd almost be thinking the mounts should be the same yeah? And possibly maybe gets a little different with front suspension?!? I dont know...
If anyone could fill the gaps, or point me to someone in-the-know, that would be great
Thanks
Simon

Taking from that comment you made earlier there, was the body swap a hard conversion??? Im not exactly novice, but no pro either *qualified mechanic mean anything these days..*
PS - I'd love a lowrunner with 1J power! but sadly enough i dont have 8k handy, nor do i think QLD roads allow #J series motors into hiluxs =( <---- sad panda!
Any*if any* help is always wanted
Simon
i have a 89 model surf on a 85 2wd hilux chassis and the wheelbase had to be shortned by 200mm..not sure if early 4 runner would be same??
so your good with service work and the occasional driveline R&ROriginally Posted by Rat_Tilly
well im not 100% sure on the yn85 series as mine is the earlier 60series shape.
general rundown is.
remove body
shorten chassis/wheelbase to suit the new body (in my case this was exactly 225mm)
move centre bearing crossmember at the same time to use the orig tailshaft and handbrake cable outers.
remove all the rear body mounts and reposition them to suit the new body.
build a custom fuel tank as the rear seat sections will hit the tank or you will have to mount the tank lower but it causes the tank to hang 75mm or more below the chassis rails (not good)
shorten front section of tailshaft to suit and then remount the centre bearing to correct the uni angles.
umm there is heaps more that needs to be done but i can't remember all of it now as i kinda did it all over 4 days with 0 sleep (just the body swap)
if it sounds too difficult from reading the above then id say its not something you want to start on as the likelyhood of finishing it is low.
the later yn85 series may require more or less work but not having done one i can't say for sure.
What do you mean they won't allow a JZ series in there? commercial vehicles are heaps more leanient from an engineering standpoint.
Mine is the early shape with the removable roof, heaps more bitchin than the later models
cheers

Thanks heaps for that. It wasn't intended on being a easy thing, but maybe simple - but i dont want something that hectic - Curiousity got to me and i had to ask seeing searching didnt pull up much.
You are correct in saying that about dealership Mechanics these days - Our shop is full of people that only know servicing and/or R/R. Its sad to see, but someones gotta do it lol. It takes a fair bit of work to get above that level in the dealership enviroment, thankfully I've been some of those lucky few which have gotten there![]()
Once again, thanks for the input!
