HD or the cushioned button will be bitey.
HD not so much.
Cushioned are great though.
Hey guys,
http://www.exedy.com.au/HeavyDutyClutchKit.aspx
Ok situation is my car hardly every gets driven on the road, mainly too the track and back and for the occasional run down the coast or too a car cruise.
Im either tossing up between just the HD clutch or the HD cushioned button.
Basically my question is whill the cushioned button be that grabby or bitey that ill be smashing W58's too bits all the time?
If so i think ill just go with the HD kit and not worry about the cushioned button..

Yeh I want to get the cushioned button..but i want to be able to do plenty aggressive driving without worring that my box will break![]()
time to have a think.

i put the HD behind my r154. not much heavier than a stock clutch!
cushioned button would be nice if you have the extra $$$. if your planning on making over 250rwkw, i'd go the cushion button, if not, get the HD and put some money back in your pocket![]()

Hi, Im enthused about corollas..
A tidbit off topic but I've been thinking the same thing, I can't decide what type of clutch I need either. I have learned from much investigating that many people go overkill on their clutch, but at the same time the clutch salesmen I ask all assure me that at 150 wkW I "need" a 3 puk ceramic clutch because it'll murder an organic...
So sales pitch aside, when you guys are making above the 200 wKW mark how can an organic not be suitable? (assuming the above "enthusiast" driving style) At this stage I'm riding on finding a good organic plate and a custom pressure plate with a clamp force of my choice, maybe it might be worth looking into since the cost of the cusioned buttons are stupidly high vs how long they (supposedly) last.
A lot of speculation there I know, but I've seen/experienced little proof myself of what's good/bad when it comes to clutches.

depends if you will ride the clutch or not really.
the button increase the force/unit area for a given clamp load, which lets it bite into the flywheel more etc etc
how much are the friction plates each?
if you get the "sports tuff HD" and it slips, then you just need to change the friction plate.
as for breaking gearboxes, that depends on your more than the slutch. apart from a standing start, your feet control gearbox damage more than clutch....
what abotu the racing clutch sport series 1.. instead of the sports tuff?

AU$TRALIA... come and stay and PAY and PAY!!! The moral high horse of the world!
I have just gone with just the HD in my gt4 as it was what was recommended to me by the guy at the clutch place.
The guy there (owner) was saying he puts the straight HD in to racing rotors and they beat the ones that have the different types of buttons off the line.
The guy know his shit to he was able to pick the make and model of the car just by looking at the old pressure plate and without looking picked that the friction plate that came with the spare motor I purchased was actually out of a 2.4ltr diesel hilux 4x4 :eek
I'll find the name of the place I got it from in the morning for you if you like
but I think it was western clutch in St Marys
You'll be pretty hard pressed killing W58's behind a 1G.
I killed one...but that was only cause i cracked the casing otherwise yes your right they are preety hard to killOriginally Posted by Joshstix
im only making about 160atw..
i just want to lower my chances of breaking a box...so i think the HD might just be right...im not sure as ive never driven a cushioned button clutch before and dont know if there brutal or not...most well just save some money and go with the standard HD clutch..

here is food for thought
if you are worried about killing gearboxes, make your clutch the 'weak point' of the system- plus it's the engine torque, which is multiplied by the gearing, rather than power that busts them. a 600cc CBR engine will crank out over 1000Nm in first gear
ie if your clutch is awesome, the system's weakest point could be the gearbox and go kaput
easier to replace a clutch than gearbox...
?
EDIT: didn't read properly... realised you were virtually saying this![]()
im hoping to make around the 240rwkw markOriginally Posted by Joshstix
