Default how much will an Engine mount compress

I've got the 7M in the wagon and got the new power steer pump on

now the pulley is maybe 4mm from the chassis rail. Is this to close??

I got 100kg of me standing on the pump and the engine moved a little but it didn't touch.

The pump is on the up side of the engine for engine torque so my thought would be that it would only move away from the chassis with hard launches etc.

any thoughts Ideas, do I take more out of the chassis

What about running a slightly smaller pulley on the PS pump?

Even though the engine should twist in the direction to move the pulley away from the chassis, once you back off the throttle I'd imagine there will be a little backlash as it resumes normal stance

Engines twist towards drivers side, which is where the pulley is.

I know the MA61 mounts (45deg angle) can sag up to 10mm or more over the years.
Not sure what style mounts you have though.

Are they already new, or have they done some years service ?

years of service, I just replaced the right one with with another old one

I'm pretty sure thats the smallest pulley out there unless some one measures a group A for me

as it stands it fits in there I think its a 5mGE pump but I'm not sure. I've got a good hunch that its not a 7M though

pic of left mount right is the same

Not sure how that all bolts together, but is there a chance of slotting the mounting holes of the pump onto the bracket & then the bracket onto the engine a couple of mm each to give some extra clearance?
Smaller pump pulley is a good suggestion, though this will mean your pump will work a lot harder.

But as CrUZida said, it's not enough clearance, if you can clearance the chassis more, that'd be your best bet.
Barring that, a custom bracket to relocate it to below the alternator?

can't really slot the holes as i start to run oput of room on the upper side of the pump, smaller pulley or chassis mods seem to be the go

I any idea what I should be looking at for clearance

5MGE's ran the pump at the top of the motor, so I'd say its a 7M one.

Get new mounts, they may lift the motor another 5mm or so.
Even if they don't, they'll be smoother than the current ones.

Be careful going a smaller pulley, I'm not sure what it would do to the pressure in the lines (it may not affect a thing, I just don't know)

Ah yes, I forgot how hard it is to find parts.
    Do Toyota do them new?
Are they the same as any other Crown?
Can you get custom urethane ones made up?

I remember that the first Camry with the 1MZ had like a shock absorber attached to front of the gearbox to limit the rocking movement.
These engines were mounted using standard engine mounts like a RWD on a subframe, with this brace on the front to limit movement, plus the standard FWD type mount on the end of the gearbox.

I'm not sure how much they were supposed to limit movement, etc, but it may be worth investigating mounting one of these to the top of the block across to the body to limit that rocking motion.

Notching the crossmember is by far the best solution.
Making sure its strong enough to be passed is something worth looking in to.
