oil cooers are the way to go esp on a turbo setup. like you say if everthing is already custom then mount the cooler where ever you want and plumb up lines to suit.
Hi,
just wondering if anyone here has had any luck or experience with fitting an aftermarket oil cooler/filter relocator kit to a FWD 4agze..
im looking into investing in at least a relocator.. but found that the cooler setup is only $50 more..
the motor internally is completely aftermarket, (rods, pistons, crank, machine work, etc etc) and am investing a bit of money on the turbo setup that is going in sometime this month..
(450hp turbo, autronic, 700c injectors, fmic, 500hp fuel pump, braided lines, 3inch exhaust etc etc etc)
anyone have an positive / negative advice on oil coolers on FWD 4agze's?
thanks..

Yeah, just use a standard oil filter relocation kit for a 4AGE. That will allow you to shift it all over. where you can run the oil lines will be a bit hard, but it should be doable out towards the passenger side as the starter motor is behind the engine.

wow there are a heap of turbo setups on the go at the moment

I'd imagine that since n/a 4age's come standard with an oil cooler then one in your aplication would be a very sensible idea especially if your running a turbo and its pretty worked motor (which it sounds) then your oil would be a fair amount hotter than an n/a 4a. I'd go with the relocator and cooler setup, plus you'll get a little bit more volume out of it too. The only thing you might be weary about is the cost of lines.

283rwkw? that's a lot out of that poor little 1.6!
edit: and judging by the amount of money he has poured into this project, he might be thinking a little more upmarket than standard 4a cooler
Yeh just using it as a comparison as to the need for one - if toyota put em on stocker 4a's then im sure one would be waranted on an all out oneOriginally Posted by Draven

ok guys.. thanks for the advice..
sounds like the way to go.. the mech doing the fab work is hesitant as he thinks the oil pump wont handle it..
90% of his customers own either skylines, wrx's or silvias.. which have higher pressure pumps.. so i can see his hesitance..
but thanks for your advice guys.. the cooler goes in!
4A oil pumps are beefy. My GE oil pump does 26psi at cranking speed (300rpm)...

I havnt found out yet, just did a cranking pressure test tonight. Thats 26psi on the stock oil pressure boss on the block, which is pretty damn close to the main gallery anwyay, so maybe 20psi at the crank.Originally Posted by 30psi 4agte
That was cranking with no plugs. I need fuel rail bolts before i can do a proper start.

Yeah, im quite happy about it. Not quite so happy with the Autometer tach which thinks im doing 10krpm while cranking... then again the ECU is off, and im not sure where it is getting its signal from....

I'm up at 80psi by 2000rpm and it holds that to the redline.
