weither its matched to the engine or not, it runs it and matches that loom/plugs
none of the jzs143 i could find had the vvti function
Toyodiy confirms that as the 2JZGE ECU in a JZS143 CrownOriginally Posted by Mr.Phreak

hhmm,
so what about getting another full loom and ecu...?
couldnt be from a normal 2jzge as this one has coil packs (and the vvti). are sensors/plugs different between models?
Seems like we need more info...
I checked the EPC and couldn't get your ECU part number to come up at all...so I suspect it is wrong.
What would be good is if you can get part numbers off things like the AC, Alternator, Starter motor, and then we might be able to work out what the engine is out of...oh and the right ECU part number
Cheers

ohh okay then. ill see what i can do! just a bit hard when the motor is 4,000km's away from me haha
thanks HEAPS for all of you guys efforts, i really appreciate it to no end!
if we can get this sorted ill love you all long time and make a forum donation![]()
okay still no love of finding more info its like extracting teeth
just getting the motor here and he is going to send some cash back to me.
thinking may as well go for an aftermarket ecu. (if anyone has one cheap let me know)
a lot that ive looked at dont mention anything about coil packs, only that they run waste spark set-ups.
is it going to be a big deal going from the coil packs back to 3 coils? (i already have a pair of 4agze ones laying around) i mean making a bracket and getting some leads to suit isnt a big deal.
also will a 1jzgte/2jzgte ecu work???? (power FC's are cheap for 1jzgte new but still more than i want to spend really)
i know a few brands around, but i cant construct a mega squirt as i dont have the knowledge or skills to do soemthing that small and fiddly, looked at rasorback and i think they only do 4a/3s ecu's. googled unichip and on there site i could only find a piggy back comp. EMS seem expensive for a non top of the line ecu..
so what bang for buck can i get?
really would like a 2nd hand one to keep it as cheap as possible....
thanks guys,
btw should i just make a new thread?
maybe not such a good idea to buy somethng with such little information
can you not find out where the motor came from by calling toyota with the engine number?
what might be a good idea... is to (as suggested before) identify other parts on the motor, and look up www.toyodiy.com etc and narrow it down.
just cos an ECU runs a motor at idle doesn't mean it is the correct ECU...
remember with aftermarket ECU, you will have to pay for it to be tuned as well.

well it wasn't a problem with little info, and i was told it was from a jzx101... which it may very well be but it would be a LOT easier if the motor was here in front of me.
i dont have the engine number.
if i have the motor here then i can look up the part number on that site.
i got the motor at a reasonable price and it has the right sump, mounts, A/C and PS to work with what ive got, also a box. so it saves me a lot or running around with that side of things.
hopefully i maybe able to get another standard ecu when i work out for sure what the hell its from
but until then ill investigate every avenue...
i have a guy who said he should be able to tune almost anything to a basic tune. he is also going to help me wire it up if i go aftermarket.
how do you know the original ecu is damaged?
if its been dropped or dented that doesnt nessecerily mean that the insides are damaged.
MX83 2JZ-GTE!!
#YOLO.
when he was loading it it tipped over and the engine mount went threw a cardboard box which had some extra goodies with it.. the ecu was in there.
he said he opened up the ecu and the board was cracked.
are these multi layer boards? making possible....
Yeah generally 4 layer PCBsOriginally Posted by ae71

didnt think there was much chance of repair. will see what it looks like when it turns up, not keen on spending more money until i actually see it with my own eyes. but it wouldnt take much for it to be stuffed.
so is there any reason i cant change back to a waste spark 3 coil set-up from individual coils if im using a aftermarket ecu?
will aftermarket ecu's to suit 1jzgte and 2jzgte run the GE without boost? (obviously with some retuning)
reason im asking is i want to have my ducks in a row... i just love ducks
just been dishing out some + rep... very small token of my appreciation!

well... for a given engine (ie, coil layout, injectors etc) there are often a couple of ECU's that will work.
once you find otu what the real number is, then you cna start to look for other compatible ECU's (stock ones).. ie with same sensors and injectors and coils...
please go to this site
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/
and put in the years for JZX101
from 97 chaser http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_J_199...ER_JZX101.html
to 01 chaser http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_J_200...ER_JZX101.html
00 cresta http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_J_200...TA_JZX101.html
etc..
and check the ECU numbers, but at the same time, check what ignition stuff and whatever else and see if it is compatible to yours..
how does seller know it is a JZX101 engine?
to make it easier

89661-22771

none of them are 38760.. or similar to 38760![]()

what about as mr freak surgested the crown one... 89661-30760 ??
not for a 2JZGE in a JZX101. those three numbers ar ethe only ones that come up.
what you can/should do, is to search around and see what cars came with VVT 2JZGE ans what years.
then look up on that site, and see if they have coil packs and what numbers the ECU are, and write them all down.
maybe one is close to yours, or maybe you cna use one of those ECU's.
but, YOU have to do the hard yards. all the info is on that site and various other ones you can search for
edit: of course that site might not be 100% perfect, but is a good start if you don't have an EPC
