just read through most of this thread, looks like you guy's will be in for a great trip.

i've been across the nullabor 3 times now in the feral (west to east, east to west and back), and it's a good cruise. unfortunatly i cannot join you in this one, as much as i would like to.

what should we bring incase of engine emergency ?

tips.. hrmm. take lots of good listening music and munchies (which can be bought at various fuel stops, you'll find the munchies cheaper than the fuel. haha). a good sleeping bag (i have a small single blow up materess that fits in my sleeping bag's bag) and a decent small tent (i opted to sleep on the side of the road and travel stops than pay for hotel/motel rooms when i could). one place on the nullabor was a bit rich, charged me 12 quid for a bit of dirt to put my tent on! but there was a bar and they cooked a good meal.
try not to travel at night on the nullabor (read big roo's), even though i did quite a bit of night time travel over and back on the nullabor and various other hwy's and roads. i find i can really chew up the k's when night driving.


on the way over from Qld to WA i went Bris/Syd/Canberra/Melbourne/Adel/Port Augusta/Eyre Hwy (Nullabor)-W.A. on the way back i went W.A.-Eyre Hwy/Port Augusta/Port Pirie/Port Wakefield-Adelaide then going straight from Adelaide to Sydney missing Canberra and Melb. i went Adelaide/Sturt Hwy all the way to Wagga Wagga then up the Hume Hwy to Sydney.
you can turn off the Sturt Hwy and go up the Mid Western Hwy to Bathurst and then down to Sydney if you want, but i didnt want to go that way. the Hume Hwy is prity good.

all i did was give the gte a oil change, coolant change (which was over due anyways), some new v-groove sparkies, checked my timing. checked the level of oil in the gearbox and then flogged the ass of it the whole way over and back. (just ak any of the aw11 guy's i caught up with).
i carry my tool collection in the hollow of my boot (i wouldnt trust any rac person or mechanic with my car), had a 1 liter bottle of oil and 1.25 liter bottle of water in stashed in the side panel of the boot. make sure you have good tyres and a good spare tyre, i never needed the spare, but making the rack to carry it on was fun.

if you have faith in your car and your work on it, you shouldnt have any trouble.
