sounds like you have some blocked mufflers to me
also that land cruiser air filter box is very restrictive
i would be ditching the gas getting set of extractors new muffler and Donaldson air filter box
if that doesn't fix it turbo diesel 24v

Thanks for the reply, the whole exhaust is stock and and in line for replacement when cash permits. I've been told by exhaust specialists that extractors don't do much more for these motors and are prone to cracking in off road conditions, the stock headers are pretty good, and just replacing the whole system with 21/2 inch and better flowing mufflers will help.
I certainly won't be ditching the gas, rather ditch the petrol.
Unfortunately it's an auto so the diesel option is way too expensive when you include the computer and wiring for the auto to work. Haven't heard about the Donaldson air filter box, will look into it. Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    Alan.

just had the same issue on the FIL's Patrol - dual fuel.

    no guts at all.

found it's running too rich - the idle screw on the convertor was wound right in (ie off) and the mix was WAY TOO rich (like 100k per 60L of gas...) to stop it from stalling.

so i just wound the mix screw in 3 turns, idle screw out 1.5 turns and lo and behold, we now get idle AND power AND economy.

who'da thunk that tuning an engine would get the best results.

the moron that had it before clearly had NFI about convertors.

Yeah, never ceases to amaze me when people fiddle with things they clearly know NOTHING about and stuff things worse than before. What is worse is people who do know still stuff things. I had it back to the installer and his reaction was to free rev it a few times then twist the power valve a full turn out and said "there try that". Bloody hell! No air/fuel meter or anything.
It wasn't running too rich till then. I was getting a tad over 420k to 100L of gas so not rich.
Unfortunately it's not much better on petrol so I can't just blame the gas.
Will have to look to a freer flowing exhaust, just hate to throw the old one away with life still in it.
    Thanks for the reply.

    Cheers,
    Alan.

no worries - it sound slike it's just more than strangled for flow though.

i mean, a muffler might be it, bt could also be something as stupid as a broken wire on your O2 sensor making the computer run retarded non stop - or something similar.

Hmm, don't think so, it's got a twin map Unichip and been on the dyno so I'm sure that would have shown up when he was tuning the advance curves. The O2 sensor would be stock tho and probably due for replacement. Still things to try.

    Alan.

Have you tried dropping the exhaust from in front of the cat, back? That would rule out any sort of blockages/inadequate flow in the exhaust.
