It could also be the coolant temperature sensor for the ECU (Not too hard to damage swaping engines)

Thats where my money is. I had the same problem with an RT142, turned out the pin had fallen away inside the plastic plug casing, so it looked like it was plugged in, but wasn't making a connection Is the engine light on?? If it is just pull the code, then check that plug/sensor. Hope this helps and isn't what you'v already tried lol

There was an early and late 22re tho

I wouldn't say 22re's and 5me's that basically the same either tho

5ME is using the same efi gear that was on the MEU that came out a fair time ago now (late 70's)... it really is very basic

Just to confirm I was referring to 5M's and not specifically 5ME's and should've payed more attention to the previous post. But here's some standard 5M linkage anywho

    :: 5M

Once again in 1980 the M engine gained a capacity increase to create the 2.8 litre 5M engine. It also received an EFI system like the 4M-E and went on to power the 1981 MA-47 Celica Supra, MS-110 Crowns, and various other JDM models.

    5M
The Bore was up again to 83.1 mm (3.27 inches) in the 2.8 L (2759 cc) 5M, produced from 1979 through 1988. Although 2-valve SOHC and carbureted versions were made, it is the fuel injected DOHC 5M-GE that is the most common.

The SOHC engine produced just 116 hp (87 kW) at 4800 rpm and 145 ft·lbf (196 Nm) at 3600 rpm.

In Australia the 5M-E (in 1985) was just 103 kW at 4800 rpm and 226 Nm at 3600 rpm due to the leaded petrol at the time.

In Europe the 5M-E produced 145PS/ 107kW in Crown MS112 and CelicaSupra MA61.

i have a "Full" set of 5ME books.....

you only need 3 x vac' hoses to run a 5ME....

but if you have changed the wires.. then maybe you got one wrong...

using the MA61's inlet & wires would be best..... as it is different to the others found in the crown's & cressy's.. even the 5MEU.....

You might only need 3x to run, but will it run just as well without the others? I'm always keen to get rid of useless crap in my engine bay

"True" but you must remember that many of the hoses are used for :-
    The Air Pump 3
    The EGR 8
The Dizzy has 2 x circuits.. 1 for when the air pump is running & cold start.. & the 2nd outer, for normal running..

most of the time the EGR is blocked & inner vac' advance on the dizzy is dead/stuffed
& the air pump only runs for the first few minutes at start up.. after that it is dead Hp..

in short you need a vac' hose to :-
    the dizzy outer vac' diaphragm
    fuel pressure reg' thing
    charcoal can.. for emissions..
& the cruzz control if you have it..
