Hi all, i'm currently in the process of tuning a 1mz-fe engine with an autronic sm4 using a wb02 meter.
Fuel tables are getting there and 90% done..
But as for ignition.. I've copied a 1mzfe timing map from another person and seems to be running fine.. But is there anyway without a dyno to fine tune ignition maps? As I realise you really need a dyno to see the torque etc.
    Thanks

you can tune ignition to knock threshold if you have knock detection hardware. this is how i tuned my supra as i didnt have access to a dyno. i read that with exotic fuels this isnt the best approach as you can move well past peak torque before you detect knock, but with pump fuel this isnt as much of a concern. I was getting knock well, well before peak torque as you can see in my 335 hp dyno sheet above.

nope, even does it when you tramp it but well before the engine gets any loading

all the hesitation i've tuned out of it, just that annoying little afr spike

    fucking stupid car

either my wideband is shit, or my ecu.

tune for say, 13.8 at idle. no corrections, correct inj times etc

drive for 3 mins. idle. now 14.6. same inj time. no correction maps. intake temp maybe slightly different, but nothing substantial

also affects other load points that were previously good are now out too, in terms of AFR

    WTF?!?!!

    going to try another wideband

    failing that

    fuck haltech

haltech wideband's are (or used to be) innovate units.

make sure both earths in the loom from the controller are grounded at the ECU earth - the innovate units were/are always prone to earth issues.

have you turned intake-air temp correction off? and do the logs have the idle at the same MAP value?

will double check the earths.... and yeah, intake air off, same pressure reading. only thing that changes is AFR

If people saw these curves, what would their general opinion be?? My initial observation is that they aren't anywhere near as clean as JZA70s but is that necessarily a bad thing?

    Hi,

Just wondering about Autronics Autotune function. I've heard it works very well so am wondering does it basically remove the need for hours on the dyno?

Reason is I know of a person who wants to use the Autotune function and a wideband and let it autotune on the road.

Any problems with this compared to getting it manually tuned by a tuner on the dyno?

the autronic autotune works best and fastest with the Autronic Widebands. It only tunes the fuel map so you still have to do all the ignition work yourself, in my experience it's the ignition stuff that takes the longest to get perfect (tuning for MBT etc). Getting the fuel map close to spot on doesn't take long at all in comparison.

No, not if the car drives sweet. Im not sure the ignition map is relevant in a line graph like you've shown, its more suited to a 3d graph to get a better visual representation, It may look worse than it is in a line graph.

The fuel curve is a little uneven although that doesnt necessarily mean its a dud tune, especially if the car drives smooth and makes power.

its important the lines dont cross over one another

Your spread sheet is a little gem by the way. I like what you have done with the target AFR and the required trim values. Do you just enter in the measured AFRs into that table when your doing your tuning?

pretty much... not all logged AFR's are pasted in as theres a fair bit of erroneous data that you have to exclude...

thanks for the compliments, that target AFR table I created myself, its pretty basic and pretty aggressive but worked so well.

Can anyone please tell me or perhaps have a quick look at their JZ to see what terminal is the postive terminal on the coil?

Or which terminal the larger gray or black wire goes to relative to clip?

    Cheers

Pin 1 positive. Pin 1 is closest to the 'clip/latch'
